I have the BFG 7800gtx oc'd to 488/1340.
P4 550 3.4 oc'd to 4.0
ASUS p5gdc mobo.
2 gig DDR2 Ram

Anyway... Far Cry: Settings:very high water:ultra high

1st mission outside: 30FPS with enemies on screen, 60-70 no enemies...

shouldn't i be doing much better with this card/setup

what resolution are you using? AA and AF?

Also, maybe the overclock is throttling the card, I don't know, why the hell would you overclock a brand new top of the line card without knowing if it performed on par or not?

Resolution: 1280x960
no aa
af:bilinear?

i got the card in july or so...I'll try it without the oc, but the temps aren't really getting that high

Hmmmn, I'm assuming you're using latest drivers, there are new beta ones on www.nzone.com that work nicely for me personally. You've probably done all the patching to Farcry. Did you have an ATI card before, reformat after installing the GTX?

What kind of score are you getting in 3Dmark05? That may tell us if there is a problem with the card or something.

using latest official drivers 78.01
3dmark05: depending on when its usually around 8100. can vary from 8000-8200 (with oc)

i uninstalled old drivers and used driver cleaner before installing my latest drivers. never had an ati on this computer

This is completely normal. Most outdoor levels in Far Cry are cpu bound because of the draw distance and large number of AI controlled characters. I sometimes get as low as 30-35 fps on the training level (1280x1024, HDR=2, 8xAF HQ).

Thanks!!! This is good to know...

but interesting choice of hardware considering your name???
(you're probably like me...just buy the best card regardless of ati/nvidia)

Yup, your Far Cry performance sounds about right. Mine can drop to as low as 28 FPS in the Training level w/ 4xAA, 16xAF...
