Get it while it's still in stock.

Wayyyyyyyyyyy over priced if you ask me though. The 7800GT has performance on par for $100+ less.

The GT is faster the most of the times.

I had rather have a 7800GT and OC it myself. :)
Price is much better to at only 350 for a GT.

We all know the XL is a poor clocker. That's
why ati had to redo it to make the XT clock higher.

I understood that the XL that are shipping use the same core as the XT. So XL's should have some serious overclock potential.

Given the high clocks of the XT, I seriously doubt that the R520's speed-binning will allow for the early X800XLs to be good overclockers. Any GPU that can hit XT speeds is probably an XT already

Supposedly, the XLs are built with the first batch of R520s that had the manufacturing flaw, so any significant OC seems unlikely. It seems like a viable rumor, since the XTs aren't ready yet.

An XL built with a post-bug chip will probably be the best bang/buck in the upper end, much like the 6800GT was, since it should be able to clock WAY above 400MHz.

I'd much rather have a 7800 GT than an X1800 XL any day!. If you could really overclock the X1800 XL, it might be a litttle better, but it would still cost about $100 more than a 7800 GT!:thumbdwn:

At least it's going for the MSRP unlike the last time around. But yeah the GT is a better value no doubt.

Disregarding the obvious price difference, I would be worried about spending that much money on a card that only has a 1 year warranty. It just seems to me that ATI isn't very confident about how well this card will hold up over time (I'm talking specifically about the high clock speeds)

Newegg is showing the price at $480 US though. Isn't the MSRP $450?

Yes. Allstarshop has it for $449, or at least they did as of yesterday.

Hell even Fry's is selling it for $449, someone over at [H] bought one and thats what he paid for it.

That is what I was trying to say.
XL's are made from the first XT's that would
not clock up to the speeds the XT needed. ;)

No, it's not too shabby. He did have to crank up the voltage and install the XT's cooler, though.

The thing is, these were hand picked cards from ATI as part of an overclocking competition, right? I would rather see retail card results before assuming XLs are all going to overclock well.

EDIT: And the only OC'ing utility available at the moment is ATI internal provided to revewers. DriverHeaven only got to 685 core on their XT versus the 705 that XL managed.

Well driver heven got their XT upto 685MGz core and 1790MHz memory, freaking hell the amount of bandwith it has.

Sure, but you're forgettin one little thing...

That XT is a review sample. That is, a carefully handpicked board.

ATI knows well that reviewers of the high end cards are goin to check the overclockability of the cards, and so it would be just sound for them to select the best cards to send to the early reviewers.

The problem is that that doesn't tell anything about the overclock potential of the "normal" retail cards... ;)

Yeah, they are hand picked cards for sure. I just hope the retail cards overclock half as well as these.

Indeed, the X1800XL has been pushed back to 14 and 17 October, I found Gibbo post about the X1800XL availability here (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=5725842&postcount=26), not surprised both Connect3D and HIS will ship the cards in plain boxes, not have any any packaging sleaves. I dont think people will buy these boxes from both Connect3D and HIS cos when people decide to sell their cards on ebay, no buyers will interesting in plain boxes.

The XL is a piece of poo and a huge waste of money. ATi needs to drop it to $350, and release a $450 card with a 550 core and 1.2 mem.
