hello, I have downloaded and played the new Vietcong 2 multiplayer demo fine on this PC, which is a 3.06ghz-geforce 5700Ultra-1gb Ram..system....BUT i installed it on my 2nd Pc, which is a 2.2ghz-geforce Ti4600-768mb Ram, with the newest Direct x ver. C, and newest nvidia driver's, 78.xx...The game installed and then I click on Icon and get screen show setting's, then after clicking ok, Game wont load and a small error window comes up saying "DIRECTX 9 INTERFACE: GEFORCE TI 4600 INITIALIZATION ERROR PIXEL SHADER VERSION 1.3(2.0 IS REQUIRED) VERTEX SHADER VERSION 1.1 (2.0 IS REQUIRED)"
I tried uninstalling reinstalling didnt help...i updated my geforce ti 4600 drivers to the newest 78.xx ones, I updated direct X 9 to newest version from Microcrap's website..I am pretty sure directx 9 c is installed because I also downloaded F.E.A.R. Single player Demo, and that automatically installs direct X Version C, and that demo played, although on a 2.2ghz it was a bit sluggish, but playable (and also a fun game demo)

So can anyone here tell me what the problem may be??? thanks...I am wanting to be able to play on the 2nd PC, so that my son and me can play together in same server's, but Im stumped as far as why this wont run, when vietcong 1 played fine on that pc.

The game requires a video card with Pixel\Vertex Shader 2.0 support... the Geforce 4 Ti series supports 1.3\1.1. Its the same deal with battlefield 2. It really sucks because the cards are still decent, its just that developers arent supporting their older pixel shader versions for whatever reason.

Honestly, it might not be such a bad thing. I heard that this demo was pretty bad.

Sorry for the bad news :(

Well...that really sux, but I have played the demo, on this PC I am on now, I was writing about my second older Pc that my son uses...But since my reply I may have found a work around for people with the nvidia gefore 4 ti 4600 cards...if It works I will post back how to get around the pixel vertex shader error's

as far as peterdon making a game that a still perfectly usuable geforce 4 ti4600 card can't play, This is a good way for them to loose some money from all the older video card owners out there.

Yeah thats the thing, there are older and slower ATI cards that use slightly newer pixel shader versions (enough to work with battlefield 2) and they even though they are inferior in performance they still work in newer games.

It doesnt make any sense to me... it seems like developers should have either supported any pixel\vertex shader versions, or nixed all low end cards together rather than supporting some and not others. I know this has been discussed to death though, so I wont go into it any further ;)

Hello capnkill, well I just went through one of the peterdon/vietcong 2 forums and there is some lousy work around that if you download some crappy program..that has to be run in background just before and then during gameplay...will allow you to play but only on non hbrada(anticheat..like punkbuster) server's..so you could play but only on servers that only have cheats on, which not very many people join/host them, and the other program must be running in background. the only other thing this is good for is making the single player mode run, but I dont remember seeing a vietcong 2 singleplayer demo out yet, unless I missed it. soafter all this researching I have discovered and concluded that my son just wont be able to play vietcong 2 multiplayer demo on the other PC, here in the house.
I also discovered alot of vietcong members in the forum I was just in are try ing to petition to peterdon to make the final release of the game when it hits store shelf's, have pixel and vertex shader support for geforce 4 ti cards, but who kows if that will happen...so what can I do now?...just let the son play vietcong 2 on my PC if he really wants to...lol

I also played that F.E.A.R. Demo (single player) and if you havent tried it, it is a lot of fun. it is a FPS Type game with interesting game play and features like "slo mo" effect..system recomended requirements are: at least a 3.0ghz with a really good video card, and 1 gb ram, which this PC has, and demo for this seemed to go good.

Heh, yeah I know what F.E.A.R. is, its one of the biggest games coming out this year :D

And its too bad about that Vietcong 2 demo... have you played the first one? That one was great. Theres a multiplayer demo of that available as well so if you are looking for a Vietnam type game to play on both those systems, thatd do.
