Alright, upgrading my video card, I'm currently using a 6600 (256) as a fill in between upgrades. Quick note, these dopey little 6600 cards arent bad, I'm using a fanless ASUS model and am able to play the COD2 demo at 1027x768 medium settings nice and smooth!

But, I'm looking for help on where to go.

It appears the 7800GTX is a VERY fast card, but I wouldnt mind a bit more performance.

Buying two 7800GTX's is a bit high for me, where as two 7800GT's is not.

That said, would the performance difference be there between a single 7800GTX and two 7800GTs?

Any ideas?

I'd save your money and wait for G72 (90nm - GeForce 7900/GT/GTX/Ultra/whateverotherultimatenamerelatingtogamecrushingpow ertheycomeupwith).

Though if you are in dire need, my personal opinion is that SLI really isn't worth it as you can only use it with games that choose to support it (though I think that people are starting to create SLI definitions for games on their own now, aren't they?). So my recommendation is a single 7800GTX, but if you really want bleeding performance on games that do support SLI, two 7800GT's is the choice for you.

Whats this???

Any word on the G72?

Are we looking at 6 months? Or much less???

Hmmmmm... this changes things quite a lot for me.

I mean, I dont want to put $700 into an SLI setup if there will be new and better in two months.

Should launch early 2006, so about 4 months, 5 tops (provided all goes according to schedule).

Well, this is something anyhow, now I'm leaning towards a single GTX for the next six months or so....

Hmmmm....

Thanks for the info bro.

From what I hear its going to be the low end 7x00 series, none would replace the 7800GTX. The same happened to the 6x00 series, they refreshed the low end and the 6800U stayed at the top.

Well, this is my first SLI setup and I really like it. SLI works with most games and the ones where you don't need a performance boost you can use the SLI 8x or SLI 16x AA modes. Also, most games already have a profile but for the ones that don't, you can easily add your own.

I don't play the waiting game but with something new probably just around the corner, if you have limited funds it might be prudent to wait a bit.

Edit: Assuming a higher end part is around the corner. If not, I'd go for the SLI now.

There will be a 512MB card for sure though. It's probably not the G72.

This is exactly what I think it going to happen.
