"Finish overclocker Maki managed to overclock the card to 12278 in 3Dmark05. He overclocked the card from a default 625MHz core/1500MHz memory to a magnificent 877.5MHz core and 1980MHz memory. He used dry ice and he cooled the FX 57 to 3617.5 MHz to reach this score. "

That's not so surprising. 3dmark05 allows for 50% improvement from SLI. Since x1800xt is already 15% faster than 7800gtx in 3dm05, that's simply an indication that x1800xt can be overclocked by 35% on dry ice in terms of the score.

Single 7800gtx can be oc'ed to get about 11 - 11.5k on dice. Of course, 7800gtx sli holds the world record at something like 17.4k.

That's like saying that a Pentium4 670 can be overclocked to 6GHz, to beat the multithreaded performance of stock athlon x2 4800+.

A much more interesting news would be something like "XYZ has x1800xt for sale, grab it now!". :)

Here's 7800gtx oc'ed to 810/1521 with a similar cpu.

Don't know what cooling they used.

It also beats 7800gtx sli.

Notice the difference in clocks and scores:
1) CPU - x1800xt = 3617, 7800gtx = 3729
2) GPU - x1800xt = 877/1980 , 7800gtx = 810/1521
3) 3dm05 - x1800xt = 12,278, 7800gtx = 11,915

Here's another one with dry ice and quite a bit lower clocks:

if it was the 81.84 driver, it would probably beat the x1800xt.

3DMark05 is very vertex bound. Much more than any game. Since the X1800XT has a huge edge in vertex processing this isn't too surprising.

ATI really needs to get these out. They would at least get sales from the people who want "the fastest card available" and are willing to pay any price.

The X1800XL is a disaster IMO. Considering it cost $100-$150 more than the GT, and runs at 70-80 degrees idle according to two [H] members. You can tell they are not selling very well as newegg still has them in stock.

yea they really should bring out those X1800XTs asap or else nVIDIA may ruin their thunder by a strong refresh.but considering how nVIDIA acted back at GF6 series, they may not do a refresh at all.

unless the 512 Mb card actually IS the refresh, not just the same card with added VRAM.time will tell.

The day they make games based off the 3DMark Engine's is the day I start giving a crap about them.

 X1300 is also a disaster and huge embrassement for ATI...

Vaporware Volume Launching wrote all over the picture. That has to be the biggest embrassement in ATI's 20 years history. Not a single X1300 card shipped and bought by end user on 5 Oct.

Wow did you blow that out of proportion or what? Pretty much every graphics card released before the GTX had a paper launch. How is this any worse than those?

Well yeah, back in 2003, Nvidia said they will expected NV38 launch and be in stock on same day and they did it, Overclockers UK got it in stock and available to buy on the day it launched, Nvidia successful executed it. But 7800 GTX and 7800 GT was somewhat different, Nvidia is talked about volume launch, they did delivered it and successful executed it. Well ATI said X1300 will be a volume launch matched Nvidia did with GTX and GT launch but unfortunately ATI had failed executed it. I wondered where all the X1300 cards? Maybe ATI didnt made the cards or accidently lost all the cards during transportation or possible stolen just like X360 developer kits stoled (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=12122). :o

Anyone can get a score in 3dMOCK...now can that same card beat the SLI in games?

Its doubtful. 3DMark05 is very vertx bound. Since ATI is already very strong in vertex processing they score high in 3DMark05 even if they fall behind in games.

Probley could really as games are CPU bound with SLi and the overhead on the SLi makes it a little slower anyway.
