Title pretty much says it all. I want more performance. I think thinking it might just be better to sell the 6800 I have and use the money to get a GTX rather than buy a second 6800 GT. What do you guys think would be better? My LCD's max resolution is 1280x1024.

Sell it and get the GTX. SLI is great, but the 7800GTX will work in all games and you don't have to worry about different modes. :)

I upgraded to one 7800GTX (i got another one later) from my 6800GT SLI... Anyway, BF2 was faster with the single GTX than my 6800GT SLI rig (although this is a rare expection).

Although, if I were you, I'd wait a couple weeks for the 512mb GTX to show up and if Nvidia ends up re configuring the PCB for the faster mem, we sould see a killer card.

The 512MB GTX will be coming out soon, acouple months probably. The G72 will not replace the GTX in my opinion, everyone thinks that nvidia will be releasing a new high end card but I dout they would want to piss off everyone who purchased a GTX even though they stated that its the high end card of this generation. The G72 will probably be the low end cards and for OEMs.

I would hold of till next year. By then the 8 series will be out. ;)

As for me, I will not be upgrading in a long time. As long as i can play games decently, it does not matter.

Wow, well I guess that settles it. Not one vote to go SLI, so selling the 6800 and getting a GTX is the route I will go. I am tempted to wait for the 512 MB 7800. I am not sure I will wait, now if there was a confirmed release date for it that might change things.

You know whats funny? All of the people that raved about the future upgradeability of SLI (buy one 6800GT, get a second one later) and now a year later not a single person recommends it.

It sounds to me like Nvidias marketing worked pretty good... buy one 6800GT now (last year) for $400 with plans of buying a second later for $250. When the time comes, it ends up being a better choice to sell your old one to someone and fork $450 over to the card manufacturer for a 7800GTX. Thats an extra $200 they made off of you ;)

If it wasnt for SLI, everyone would probably still be happy with a single 6800GT. The whole SLI thing was great for Nvidia, no doubt about it. Theres nothing wrong with that either, it makes them money and it gets the users an insane amount of graphics power.

Nvidia plans to release 512MB GTX card right before ATI's X1800XT cards are available (November 5th, 2005).

Yeah I agree, I always though SLI's "future upgradability" was BS. I mean don't buy something for the future, buy something for the NOW and if that something sucks in the future, sell it and get something else.

Don't get me wrong I love SLI as it is the only thing that can give me my high res fix. AHHH thats the stuff...

I'm still happy with my 6800GT SLI- but I have had them both since March when the 7800 were not out yet. I would not get another 6800gt now though with the 7800/X1800 out now.
