After playing about ten straight hours in my first sitting, stopping for a bite to eat and a couple breathers in front of the TV, it became clear to me how well FEAR is paced. Not only in terms of story, but in terms of action. You may wander around for several minutes without encountering a living soul (or something not so living, for that matter). But the subtle music, the soundscape, and the moody lighting and environments keep the tension running high as you move carefully from one spot to another. There is precious little dead space in this game. You have to watch every corner, because the enemy is merciless, poised, and always brings friends. And sometimes the corners are watching you.

Game of the Millenia!

But seriously, playing the demo and seeing stuff move on its own (dead limbs for example), was incredibly freaky. I can't wait to play the whole thing.

I'll be getting it for sure. My new DFI mobo and X800GTO should be here thursday and I have about $50 left over for a game. This would be a great way to burn in my new hardware. :D

I hope it's just my cynical nature talking. By my demo experience, it'll be great. :D

What system did the ign guy run it on? GTX SLI?

Yes, the FEAR demo was one of the most enjoyable demo's I have every played.

The FarCry demo was really good too... but I think this one was better.

BTW, is there a Quake 4 demo?

The answer is:
With a 6800GT and a 3.0GHz P4 in this particular rig, the auto-detect performance settings cranked almost every bell and whistle to the max (minus soft shadowing, which is very demanding on even the latest cards). No antialiasing, but anisotropic filtering was set to 4x at 1024x768.

Also, no, there is no Q4 demo at this time.

I was really under-whelmed by the FEAR demo. It looked pretty but other than that, not so much.

The Far Cry demo

I have never been so impressed in my life with any game as I was with Far Cry.

But I am hoping the game itself is awesome.

I don't want people to post a review bout the first few hours and say its a great game, I heard that for D3 and look how that turned out.

You know the first part of the single player demo in the room talking to the two guys and the (omg rofl hawt) chick, I didn't even know I was in the game, that guys bald head looks so smooth and round. Anyway I just pre-ordered mmm tasty :D

Well, I must be the only one who was left rather unimpressed by the demo.

From a technicall point of view the engine seems solid and feature-rich but the gameplay otherwise looks dull.

Shoting a few guys in a semi-futuristic industrial environment full of boxes and other artifical obstacles does not seem all thatinnovative nor a jaw-dropping expeience.

Now, Far Cry with its lush jungle and vast world... that was really a memorable experience.

Not all the levels are industrial, there are office buildings and even aptartment complexs in the game aswell. I like it because many games try to include large enviroments which I find annoying, I love close quarter battles.

But you still hated doom 3 :D

But you still hated doom 3 :D

Because it was repitious and the enemies were dumb as doornails. Oh must I mention also that to scare you it had to constantly use the "watchout for the enemy behind you" trick. If Doom3 had better AI and didn't use cheap tricks it would have been better, I never had a problem with the lack of open areas but atleast they could have made the areas look somewhat different more often...

I will eventually pick up the DVD version of this, but not for $55-60 dollars!

I don't think any game is worth that much anymore......

Anyway, played the living hell out of the SP demo and am still playin the MP demo. I initially had a "meh" kinda feeling towards the game (partially because of the annoying amount of hype surrounding it), but have recently warmed up to it.

The slowmo effect and graphics is all thats got me interested in this gamebut I think i'll skip this one. Gameplay and multiplayers seem extremly dull.

i've been playin the MP demo a bit.. its kinda fun but it doesn't really bring anything new or interesting to the table as far as i'm concerned. not to mention i gotta turn the eye candy way down so i can get smooth FPS for fraggin

The Specialists mod for Half-Life had it and it was freaking sweet :D

But I guess for a retail game it is new...

Doom3 wasnt about the AI. And for environments.. I surely hope you've played to see the hell levels! When i saw those I knew that doom3 would be one of my favorite games of all time. FEAR is nice with it's "run through office complexes killing s**t yay" but I thought the MP was much more fun/exciting. I wasnt even slightly scared by the demo. Maybe "spooky" would be a better word for this game (especially at the system requirements hehe). Peace,
