I have a buddy who just got a new system and installed windows 64 on it. We need help installing a USR5417 (http://www.usr.com/products/networking/wireless-product.asp?sku=USR5417) wireless card on the system. Besides us being to dense to install it are there any drivers we don't know of that will work for this card?

Thanks for you help and all smart asses shut thy pie-holes.

Right now there´re no drivers for this card part number I think it has Texas Instruments chipset, right now the only working chipsets are broadcom and ralink, but I´m not sure what chipset comes with this card, if it is broadcom is automaticly detected for ralink chipset you need to download the drivers.

Hope this helps you :)

The Ralink drivers support a very limited number of cards, but there is a way to modify the .inf file to get support for any card that uses the RT2500 chipset.

The USR one mentioned here doesn't use the Ralink chipset, and I'm pretty sure it's a TI one as mentioned above. The only options would be to wait it out and see if USR will support x64 or buy a card that uses either the Broadcom or Ralink chipset. Here (http://ralink.rapla.net/) is a list of devices that use the Ralink chip.

Thanks guys, I figured as much. My buddy is building his first computer and he was told to use Windows 64 by a friend and some guys at the computer shop (against my adivice). He now wishes he listened to me.

I just told him to make it simple on him self and install windows xp 32 and wait for more support for 64.

If he dosent want to fork out the cash for a second windows copy he can get a Wireless to Ether bridge. Honestly i recomend it for anyone running wireless so you are immune to the 'Windows Wireless Connectiviy Drop' *feature* and easy setup for alternative OS's.

You can mod some of the Linksys wireless routers with hacked firmware to do the same thing for cheep.

Thanks for the info guys. He did find his xp disk and all is good in n00b land. The biggest lesson he learned was to listen to me from now on. ;)
