Someone move this to the PF, where its been discussed to death 10000001 times already.

There's nothing wrong with the faith, its the people who use it to convince people to commit violence who are wrong and the problem. Of course, its much easier to point the finger at the faith than the misuse of it, especially if one is cheering on their own faith as superior. Cue, chorus of Islam haters, who have read 3 quotes and claim to know the faith inside out...

Well... there is nothing wrong with the religion per say, but it "in a way" leads people to be a bit more risky than they normally would... Their religion revolves around reincarnation. When they die, they just come back again. When they strap a bomb to their chest and blow up, its ok because they will be back in about 5mins as a bouncing baby. Add that to the fact that alot of "leaders" like to take advantage of the religion and poison the mind of everyone at a very early age... and you got dynamite.

Umm, wrong.

They believe they go to paradise. Bhudism is reincarnation. ;)

Forget what you know and think you know.

Read the books yourself and form your own opinion. Something I have yet to do.

FWIW there are people here who claim to have read the Quran and the Hadith - yet still feel the religion is a nest of violence.

Which branch of islam are we talking about here?

Esoteric(Sufism) does teach reincarnation

LOL Sufism is as much a part of Islam as Mormons are Christians. Islam most certainly does NOT involve reincarnation. Muslims would saw the heads off a sufist (don't know if that's the proper word for them, just guessing) just as quickly as they would any other infidel.

Buddhism does not believe in reincarnation per se, except that they believe the Dalai Lama's spirit is reincarnated continually. You must be thinking of Hinduism, sy.

Anyway no, muslims blow themselves up because they think that they're going to get 72 virgins when they die, not because they come back to life.

First part, bingo.

Second part, I always remember reading that englightenment was the path to an eternal reality. This eternal reality is somewhat spiritual, and as such all animals share the same spirit as humans etc (hence "coming back as a bird"). I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that.

You're totally right about the enlightenment deal wrt Buddhists. But reincarnation does not play into it for the individual. It is less a religion and more a personal philosophy. However in Hinduism reincarnation plays a huge role and the end goal is the same (enlightenment). The cow is considered a life form that is high on the scale of quality of life, and they revere cows because they believe they are the reincarnations of their wise ancestors. So basically if you're a cow, you're pretty close to nirvana. :D

Looks like Buddhism does deal with reincarnation.

The aim of Buddhist practice is to end the suffering of cyclic existence, samsara (Pāli, Sanskrit), by awakening the practitioner to the realization of true reality, the achievement of liberation (nirvana).

Heh, I could have sworn that was exactly what Hindus believed. Ah well, can't be right ALL the time. :D

There are a lot of similarities between Hinduism and Buddhism. One of the big differences though is that Hindus have been known to use pain as a spiritual tool. Buddhists don't believe that is necessary to achieve enlightenment.

It's the religion of death, intolerance, opression, murder, torture, rape, and control via fear. There's a start...

The "prophet" muhahamamememaaaehehehd, for example, was a filthy village burning rapist and child molestor.

Stop beating around the bush. Come straight out and tell us what you think of Mohammed.

Stop being so darn politically correct for once!

Scroll down "below the fold" and you will find an uber table documenting every islamic terror attack in the past 12 months. Since Sept 11th 2001, the site has documented over 3000 terror attacks by muslims.

They were talking about that on the radio last Friday. My jaw dropped when I saw that.

This one caught my eye.
7/19/05 Ethiopia Jijiga 1 0 Islamic militants stop a bus and force the Christians on it to repeat a Muslim creed and pray to Mecca. The one who refuses to do so is shot to death.
