i recently deleted 2 avi. files from my video capture program folder, both were about 6 gb in size. before i added them to my comp i had about 50gb of free hard drive space, then when i added them i had about 38gb's, so after deleting these 2 files i firgured i would have 50gb's again, but it still says i only have 38. i emptied the recycle bin, check everywhere i could think of for any traces of these files ,did disc clean up. but cant firgure out why i still am getting a reading of only 38gb's of free hard drive space when i know i should have 50gb's. anyone have any clues on this issue? i only have norton antivirus, not norton utilities.

Run windows Scandisk, it's the "Error Checking" option in tools tab on drive properties...

clear your windows temp folder. Empty internet cache if you need to get some space back.;)

well i found a way to gain a few extra gb's on my hard drive. maybe you guys know this, maybe not,but here's how i reclaimed some extra space: go to start/accessories/system tools/disk cleanup and choose "more options" tab at top of window...then at bottom of that window click on "clean up" under the "system restore" option....delete all your exsiting retore points except for the most recent one. and you should regain about 2-4 gb's..i ended up regaining about 4gb's...after done with this go to system restore and just for safety create a new restore point for the current time, now you'll have 2 restore points, which should be plenty. this is for windows xp home edition only, not sure if other os's support this feature. i also did regular disk clean up and removed my temp files.
