I desperatly need a new monitor, this 15" is driving me mad.

Ive been looking at the Iiyama 17" VM pro 413.

I am not a great expert on monitors and i have no clue about the features. The only thing i base goodness on is what resolution and refresh rates it can go up to.

My budget it £200, i havnt really looked around because i dont really know what i am looking for. I want a 17" capable of 1600x1200, thats all im really looking for.

If anyone has any recommendations i would really appreciate them.

you could go with the IIyama 19" VM 1451 £175 inc VAT:)

I would reccomend it over a 17"

Going from 15" to 17" is not a good upgrade.

why not?

I think a 19" will be too big

19" is the way to go... Two friends of mine swear by Iiyama, though, so you should be peachy. :afro:

Is that monitor 100% flat? If it is, then I would recomend that one also. If not, another good monitor on a budget would be the LG E900B, 100% flat and the same refresh rates as the Iiyama 1451.

Believe me, a 19" monitor really makes a difference, ill never go back to a 17" or even a rounded face monitor ever again

When in doubt, Wal-Mart even has a 19" KDS flat CRT that is pretty good.....all for an impressive $185!

Im worried that i will get alods of headaches etc. from being infront of the monitor that is really big. I sit pretty close to the screen. I really am not sure, if it will or not. Should i take the risk?

I've spent the better part of my days ( at work and at home ) in front of a 21" CRT with no problems...

Per usual, bigger = better...

IIyama 19" VM 1451 £175 inc VAT

If you could stretch a extra 50 then you could get the Iiyama 19" VM Pro 454 for just under £300

2048 x 1536 @ 80Hz
1600 x 1200 @ 100Hz

Thats on its way to me :D

From what I have heard its a damn fine purchase....get it!!

Just found what you are looking for ;) Iiyama VM Pro 452 (http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-info.asp?quicklinx=SKHKK&refererid=KK)

£238 incl.VAT +Del.

or

LG E900B (http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-info3-info.asp?&m=y&quicklinx=238T)

£210 incl.VAT +Del.

Both monitors support
1600*1200 @75Hz
1280*1024 @ 85Hz
1024*768 @ 120Hz

For the price both monitors are good, flat screen, viberant colours. You can get better monitors, but they also cost alot more, at the time I bought my Iiyama VM Pro 450, it cost £450 and does 1600*1200 @ 85Hz. The Iiyama VM Pro 454 only costs £300 and supports 1600*1200 @ 100Hz, so it really depends on how much you can spend. The VM Pro 454 @ £300 is highly recommended if you can spend that much.

im very much tempeted to go for the £300 quid one.

But thinkin about it i would really only be doing that for the extra resolution which i probably would never use.

I will probably go for the LG, simply because it has all the features i want and looks very nice. Whereas the Iiyama, the design looks pretty outdated.

Thanx for al the help. Anymore options will also be appreciated

That's the stupidest **** I've ever heard. hahaha. Thinking that you'd risk serious headaches from your monitor being 2" larger.. There's no way you can justify that.

The only way you could even mention headaches with monitors is that you might get them less due to the probable better dotpitch that would be on your 19"; that would actually make you have LESS headaches.. but that's all just a guess..

19" monitors rock.. *pets monitor*

I have found this monitor. I think i am going to get it.

Samsung SM957DF 19"
Max Resolution (based on VESA GTF Timing): 1920 x 1440 @ 64Hz

Just wondering if anyone has any info about samsung monitors. Are they reliable etc.

Thanx

Best thing to do is to do a search on Google (www.google.co.uk) (UK link) and read up on some reviews, its really the only way I buy PC hardware, is after reading up on it. Dont just settle for one or two reviews/articles, I would reccomend at least half a dozen ;) Im sure that monitor will be fine, the specs you gave means that it will be of the same quality as the LG and cheaper Iiyama, and as long as it has a flat screen I think you will be happy with either one of those 3 :afro:

ok,

Ive looked at the 3 monitors that u guys have recommended.

Im either going with the LG or Samsung. I really dont like the outdated look of the iiyama. its the only model that looks like that and i simply dont like it.

Ive found this monitor
Samsung
SM955B 19"
CRT 1600x1200@85Hz
its only £186.82 on dabs.com
that seems pretty cheap for the resolution and refresh rate you are getting.

Also are you sure that those 3 monitors are flat screen. I dont think any of them are, is this a problem?

Also what does the dotpitch represent? should it be lower or higher?

19" isn't big enough for me, I am looking for a 21" or 22" monitor now.:D

Don't listen to these spoilt brats, 17 inch is just fine and is a lot cheaper and easy on the pocket.

I know 100% that the Iiyama and the LG are both flat screen, and yes a flat screen make a big difference. dot pitch you should be looking for something from 22-26.

Oh and MrNasty, 19" monitors arent that expensive if you cared to look, over the past three years the prices have come down alot. If you look at any high end ready made pc, a 19" monitor comes standard these days.

I just had a look at the specs on that Samsung and the specs on this link (http://www.microdirect.co.uk/companypages/products/monitors/crtmonitors/samsung/MON19SAM955B/MON19SAM955B.htm) state 1600*1200 @68Hz so I would give that one a miss ;)

The LG is a really nice monitor for its price and its 100% flat
