and all their cheap ass line assembled monstrosities..
with the exception of their custom shop axes from Cali, the brand is now a total loss of quality control and style. When Leo left, the company basically became the soul sucking coporation it had always been on the verge of becoming.
I've played many many models over the years, and there is only one answer for consistent, sensibly priced guitars.
Paul Reed Smith.
Yeah, they're more expensive than some, but no brand anywhere comes close to the quality and setup caliber straight out of the box.
This is my axe - same color, hardware, and the pickups...beyond words.

uhm...you can probably tell i'm a bit opinionated in this area...
i'm not suggesting that you shouldn't be happy with your guitar, if you love the way it sounds, it's for you. I've just been disappointed by Fenders too many times over the years.
But I don't think anyone can disagree that Fender isn't the company it used to be. Same goes for Marshall..ugh...what a sad state that company is in these days.

what's everyone's setup?
i love gear....love it like air in my lungs.
Harmony Central is the greatest site for researching new schtuff.
Here's mine -
PRS McCarty Standard > Warlock pedal board > Boss Super Shifter > Boss Hyper Metal > Ibanez DE 7 delay/echo > Akai Headrush looper > Marshall Vibratrem >stereo split into A) Ernie Ball stereo volume pedal > Marshall DSL 401 amp and B) Line 6 Delay Modeler > Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier driving Ampeg 4 x 12 cab w. Celestion 70's.
All pedals powered by Voodoo Labs Power Brick. I can't say enough good things about THAT little gem...it's probably about the best $120 i spent on my rig.
And if it isn't obvious at this point...this rig is F***ING LOUD as a jet.
Well, during the CBS era (65-85) Fender was making some pretty sucky stuff. Since then they’ve put out some nice gear. I’ve got an ’87 Fender American Standard Strat that I play through a Fender BandMaster amp. An Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer is the only stomp box I need.
PRS makes a nice guitar but I think the fretboard is a little too dang flat for my taste.

Wondered if you've checked out Maxon's newest issues of the old TS9 and TS808 circuits. they were the original patent owners of all of the 70's and early 80's boxes, and they've started producing them en masse again.
as far as necks go, i'm a rosewood fan, and wide/flat type of guy.
PRS makes the best, IMHO. And again, the main reason i went with PRS was the pickups...unbeatable in any category. PAF brawn, coupled with a coil tap that gives the fender bite when wanted just can't be beat.
I also have a Hamer Special for backup that was bought used. Great way to spend $300 bucks, if i ever did.
I'm not a blues guy though, which explains my pedal fetish..
do lots of textural stuff a' la Massive Attack, Portishead, My Bloody Valentine, Morcheeba..
we have the sensual, breathy girl vocalist over lots of guitar wash and triggered drum sounds.
Bleh I don't like fenders at all *gag* They're all so generic. Go for a Les Paul or a BC Rich Warlock. ANYTHING but a fender. Their sound isn't for me at all... the frets are too close together and just blah... ya can mash em all day and still get "close" to the sound, but never right on. That's why ppl like em I guess.

Ssshhhhhh, you're not supposed to say PRS around here! :p
Fender used to be pretty kick ass. My dad had one of their guitars from the late 70s and that was just immaculate and you really couldn't beat their mid-70s vacuum-tube amps. Not only did it kick out great sound...but if you're playing outside in a cold climate, you can stand behind it and keep your extremities warm!
Now, the only thing that's of any passible quality from Fender is their bass guitars which isn't saying much. I don't know how John Deacon and Chris Squire does it but they both can make a Fender bass sound really damn good. I think they're OK but there's definately better bass guitars out there (I like the sound of WAL myself - more rich sound with less twang).
My friends Tim and John are Kramer addicts but Tim also likes some BC Rich, mainly the Warlock!
I like the drums myself and I prefer Zildjian symbols, Ludwig drums and Remo heads. Strangely enough, gimme a Paiste hat but that's all from Paiste I need. However, most serious drummers - those with decent change in their wallet - go full bore with DWs and I can't say I don't blame them! :)

My next guitar is going to be a something with PAF pickups :)
Thats pretty cool..You play Morcheeba and Portis Head..I love both bands..Trip Hop is pretty cool..
Give Cibo Matto - Stereotype A and Sneaker Pimps - Becoming X a shot if you havnt heard them yet..
:afro2:
I've got a bottom of the line Ibanez 5 string bass and a blown Peavey Minx for an amp. LOL I really wish that Tobias hadn't stopped making basses and handed their stuff over to Gibson. I don't know what I would really like as a bass these days, perhaps a Pedulla. But, I do know what I would like for an amp...an SWR Super Redhead.
All hail, Victor Wootan!

I've heard both. And i've seen Cibo. strangle mix of innocence, sensuality, and humor. I went home laughing about how dirty i felt after the show.
If you like that kinda stuff too, i'd suggest Bowery Electric, Weed, Hooverphonic, Supreme Beings Of Leisure, Puracane, and of course, Cocteau Twins. :)
I'm gonna jump in the boat with Sy on this one. I'm NOT a guitarist. I'm a drummer, and I definately prefer Zildjian cymbals (Z Customs for me) And Ludwig drums :) Yumminess all the way. BUT don't get me wrong. I looooooove my pacific double kick pedal :)

Yep, I'm not a drummer, but I love to bang away on em'. From my incessant hitting of other people's drums that has taken place for the last few years I have grown to definately love Zildjian. I don't think Paiste is all that bad, but I'll definately take Zildjian if I had a choice. I seen great drums and bad drums, heck, my friend got this $8k set for free from a friend who died. Our first drummer tried to get by on some no-name set called "CB" or something, maytbe for "crappy bitch" but nah I don't know what is was, just sounded like crap. Hit the symbol and it freakin' bent!!!. My drummer just uses Pearl Export series drums, wouldn't know which but yeah, loaded with Zildjian symbols, not the greatest set in the world, but its nice. I hate it when symbols crack or break tho, those biatches cost a freakin' lot, those things look solid, damn, I couldn't imagine how hard people hit them. Somehow my drummer actually got a bad Zildjian hat. Wouldn't know how, but he ended up using something else. Drums are certainly something else man, I love em' :D
I own a Peavy Predater. No the most expensive guitars, but made in my state and, in my opinion, sounds great. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul black with pearl lining. I wish I had never pawned off my Jackson a few years back, but oh well.... I play on a Marshel MG 30 AMP.

Pearls, like DWs, are nice...if you got the money. :p
Now about that bent symbol - did you go all Gonzo on it? ;) What always bugs me about those hairband and heavy metal drummers is that they beat the hell out of their skins and you really don't need to. It's not like you're Paul Freakin' Bunyon trying to chop down a redwood.
I've beveled symbols before but just over conservative use...because ride symbols are supposed to used conservatively like during choruses and stuff. But try telling that to Alan White of Yes - he's on his ride so much he practically could build a condo on it. In fact, he does if you listen to "Homeworld (The Ladder)". :D :p Speaking of Yes, I'm going to see them live this year BY HOOK OR CROOK. I missed their "Magnification" tour (that's one HELL of an album) last year but this year tour I can't miss because Wakeman is back! W00t!!
But when you put a few dozen bevels in a ride over a period of a 4-6 minute tune...You know that's a sign of bad quality. The symbol in question was a little 10" ride by Paiste. Why they can't make their symbols as durable and rugged as their hats is beyond me.
