2006 changes....and they are actually for the better, but I like current qualifying better than what it's going to.

Under the new format, qualifying in 2006 will be held in three phases. The five slowest cars will drop out after the first 15 minutes, and five more will depart after the next 15. The remaining cars will compete in a 20-minute session for the top spots on the grid.
and they are going to allow tire changes! A new rear wing is on the way, supposedly to allow more passing.

The whole idea of one-set-of-tires-for-one-race was utterly moronics anyway.

Yeah, sure. Just like reducing the size of the tires, increasing the height of the car, dropping electronics, reducing aerodynamics... Sure, we all saw how more passing all these things allowed during the last few years... Bah.
I will continue to follow f1, but I have to say that lately I find champ and nascar way more fun to watch... Heck, even indy is better, from a fun point of view ... ;)
You know what scares me ? :
[Max Mosley] also proposed a return to slick tires and wider wheels in 2007.
the fact that I like a proposal from Mosley ... Disturbing thought, really... ;) :D

:rofl
That's why I said "supposedly" would add more passing, it was poking fun at Mosley
cheers for allowing tire changes again. the single tire rule was stupid, not to mention dangerous. the newly designed rear wing looks bad, so i hope they don't change, but they have to do something to allow for more passing (ie, maybe make some of the courses a little wider? also, the drivers complained all season that the changes the FIA mandated for 2005 cars making them less stable when following behind someone, thereby making it more difficult to pass. why not fix that?).
Bahrain opens the season next year, followed by Malaysia and then Australia, which traditionally opens the season but won't since it is is hosting the Commonwealth Games (remnant of the British empire): http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=140953

What they need to do is make it so more than just 2 or three teams have a legitimate chance of winning a race, Jordan, Minardi, Sauber, and before this year, Jaguar had no REAL chance of winning. Some way of leveling the field would be nice, as long as they don't "dumb down" the cars. F1 NEEDS to stay at the pinnacle of motorsport, i'd hate to see F1 turn in to a european version of the IRL.
