So does this now raise the bar / price point to $799 for G80 once it makes its debut?
At such a high price, surely the supply and demand curves have got to shift such that small chip yields won't necessarily be a problem anymore, coz of the insane price tag???

$1200 for a video card?
Guys we as consumers / enthusuasts need to draw a line...
Its like feeding an addiction, Nvidia / ATi have what we want and they know it... And will keep upping the price of a "fix" with each new generation.
I mean really where will it end??? Are the factors of production constantly increasing in price or are the card makers just getting fatter off our backs?
Am lost for words.

I have been doing this for a long time. I generally maintain a very strict rule of never buying a video card for more than $200. I paid $180 for my 6600GT and it works pretty good.
I think I am going to raise that bar to $300 for the next generation though.

I set a limit at $400 last summer and now that I make 3x as much money per year, I'll raise it to $600, but I'm happy with my SLI GTs for now. This IS ridiculous though.
If they're going to charge 2-3x the price of the previous generations, they should be giving us 2-3x the perfomance increase to match it.

I just opened a fortune cookie:
Not every soil can bear all things. Be practical
If they bring $1200 graphics cards to the market it is because they think the market can bear it.

OMG they used grunts pic!
And here I just purchased this 7800 GTX 256MB two weeks ago. Oh well. I don't do sli, one card is enough, and I only invest in a card once a year, so i'll enjoy this gtx until G80.
512MB would be nice, but no way i'm shelling out $800...there's just no freakin way. I refused to pay $599 when the GTX first hit, waited till it went to $499 where top end cards usually are in the price ratio.

What brand? If you got eVGA, step that **** up!
Step up is the way to go, I will be watching the EVGA site like a hawk for the moment that it pops up on there so I can trade my Ko in.

No, my link was for a BFG 512MB clocked at 580/1750. I guess it was removed. Link found through Anandtech's video card price guide. (Also removed)
