Here is the original Nvidia Geforce 6 & 7 Product Lineup found at guru3d here:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/278/
Notice the top line is the Geforce 7800 GTX 256-Bit Bus, 512MB GDDR3 Memory, 560MHz GPU Speed, and (900MHz)Frequency 1600MHz RAM Speed.
This line has been edited from the chart that is there now. Here is Original:

900mhz GDDR3 ram would be 1800 mhz. Wouldn't it?

57.6 gigabytes of memory bandwidth lovin.

Yes 900MHz would be 1.8GHz... not sure where they are getting the 1.6 from..

Yes 900MHz would be 1.8GHz... not sure where they are getting the 1.6 from..

My theories are as follows:

1) Mistake: Someone put 900/1600 instead of 900/1800 or 800/1600 by mistake.

2) To show what RAM is rated at: The RAM is rated for 900Mhz but will be clocked at 800/1600.

Q: Why not just clock it at 900 if that's what the RAM is rated at?

My A: Well, if you only need 800Mhz for whatever core speed they are shipping for instance. If 800Mhz is enough then the other 100Mhz just increases heat and power usage.

The other thing to consider is that 800+ to 900Mhz is a higher clock speed for the memory controllers to run at. It might be that we are starting to see the upper limit of G70's memory controller. Not that 900Mhz is impossible, but either that not all G70 cores can sustain 900Mhz memory controller speeds error-free or that 900Mhz memory controller speeds wouldn't allow them to ship enough and 800Mhz will for whatever reason(s).

We could also see special edition/OC cards ship with higher core and memory clocks, such as over 560Mhz core and over 800mhz memory. The headroom from 800 to 900Mhz might have been left open for that.

(Edited for some spelling and such)

Samsung doesn't have memory rated for 1.6GHz? Because if they do, it really wouldn't make sense for nVidia to use 1.8GHz ram if they were only shooting for 1.6GHz...

I'm too tired to check if Samsung has 1.6GHz ram right now, I'll check tommorrow if anyone else doesn't... nite all!

more from the Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27552) about prices/availability

I noticed last night on the Overclockers.co.uk website that the price of a BFG 7800GTX OC has crept up £30 (nearly 10%) in the last two days (£340 to £370); some other 256MB GTX cards have also gone up in price. If it weren't for the fact that they are on 1-3 day back order, I would surmise that retailers are trying to milk extra cash from potential buyers before the 512MB card arrives and dilutes demand for the 256MB version... however, in the circumstances, it suggests that the price differential between 256MB and 512Mb is such that they can raise the 256MB price and it will still look like a good deal ('bang for buck') compared to the 512MB, which will be that much more expensive than many have speculated/hoped (£500+?). Having a price differential of closer to £150 than, say, £75 would certainly help reduce bad feeling on the part of recent 256MB GTX buyers... Speculation, gotta love it!

more from the Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27552) about prices/availability I think there wrong, alot of people are gonna want these cards whatever the price, for them to be limited means higher prices than the MSRP:mad: The fastest card on the market that is limited = $1000:eek: I for one want two of these cards but Im not gonna pay more than $50 over MSRP:thumbdwn:

i am wondering G80 Ram speed 2000mhz or new bus (512bit)
i used to have radeon 9200 from a couple of months and it have
onboared 400 mhz 64mg ram :(

Doubtful, my theory for G80 is such for their memory interface.

Using GDDR3 1.1ns/1.0ns 1.8GHZ/2GHZ at launch with a new improved 256Bit Interface.

Using GDDR4 0.8ns/0.7ns 2.5GHZ/2.8GHZ at launch with 256Bit Interface.

The last one is usage of 512Bit Interface which is really really unlikely.

LOL why bother I already know the G70 is great and this is just a much faster one with more memory. :D

So Ninja do you think the tradeup will be available on Monday? I'm half considering pulling my card and bringing it into work so I can ship it out right away on Monday. I wonder if I should call evga and see about that or if it would be a waste of time.

You are correct sir! (EDITED)

X1800XT uses samsung 1.6GHz rated memory.

Might be that ATI is taking most of the 800/1600mhz chips that Samsung can produce.

Could also be that since NVIDIA would want to buy in huge quantities in order to get the best possible prices that they have already ordered this memory for their next generation GPUs and then decided to use it here as well.

Guess we'll see at launch.

NVIDIA have in the past utilized low rated memory memory modules only not to clock the modules at the lowest rating. For example, the 6800 ultra? rated at 1.6 ns, the memory was clocked at 1.1 Ghz a full 150 MHz lower than it's rated 1.25 GHz. The use of lower rated modules has always allowed operation headroom and also overclockign headroom. :p

Couldn't hurt to call. I think I'll do just that, hopefully they can answer me. :)

Dunno if this has been posted, but, some numbers from the 512MB 7800GTX here:
http://www.hardwareoc.at/Geforce_7800GTX_512MB-preview.htm

"calculated performance 7800 GTX 512 MT 550/1800 = ~ 10520 score"

Seems like it isn't a real test, just some numbers from the paper, i think.

I can tell You both, that until the EVGA 7800 GTX512 is released and that the Part Number is given to the EVGA Step-Up Program, it would be a waste of time to remove Your present Card now. For one, the EVGA GTX512 has to be availabe to the Step-Up Program, and Two, the Step-Up process has to be completed (Verification of Registered Card, Payment made for Cost Difference, and Shipping Charges)and approved before you will recieve an RMA for Step-Up Number. At that time, after an EVGA GTX512 becomes available for your RMA/Step-Up #, EVGA will then Send You both an Email with the special RMA# and instructions for shipping them your present card with all of its accessories. Once you have sent them your cards, and EVGA recieves them, the Step-Up will be Final and Your New EVGA GTX512 will be shipped by the method that You chose and paid for. Please read this: http://www.evga.com/stepup/default.asp
I hope this helps, but let me remind You that when the EVGA eGeforce 6800 Ultra 512 came out last April, Alienware purchased every single Model from EVGA. If there are enough of the EVGA GTX512's available after the Online Retailers and Sytem Builders get Them, then maybe some will become available for Step-Up. I Stepped-Up from the GTX to the EVGA GTX KO ACS3 and it took 3 Weeks before I got the First BLUE EVGA GTX KO. I wish it was the 512, but my time(90-Days) was running out. We will find out about the EVGA GTX512 on Monday, whether we find out about how many will be made available for Step-Up is another matter. JKohl
