Looks like ATI has a winner.Let's just hope they don't under clock the core,or screw up the drivers.

I agree that r300 is REALLY impressive :(
but if nv30 is anything like looks to be, the reign of ATI will be short :(
kinda sucks :(
ya the ati card is curtanly a winner i hope nv30 is every thing nvidia is claiming it to be. mygawd 4x fsaa no perf hits i drool at the thought

but at which cost :(

The Radeon 9700 will be alot cheaper than the NV30(when the NV30 is out), but not as fast. I think it will be like the Radeon 8500 was the to Geforce4 TI. I think that people won't be dumb asses and buy the fastest card this time around. Hopefully they'll be reasonable and buy a Radeon 9700.
Where 3D Mark 2002 by the way, or hell 2003?

I think 2001SE probably was their 2002 version.
*edit*
Also, people who bought a GF4 are no more stupid than a person who buys a 9700. They wanted the best hardware available at the time, and that's what it was. It's the same way with R300 (9700), NV30 will be released soon after the R300, and should outperform it. Therefore, following your logic, any person who buys a 9700 is a "dumbass".

I dont rely on those benchmark results anymore... 3dmark=biased trash.

I'm really considering the 9700 for my next video card. I have had my good 'ol Geforce 3 for almost a year now, but it seems a little crippled in some newer games :(. Having owned a Radeon 32DDR prior to the GF3, I won't hesitate to go back to the ATI camp.

If this ends up being the case (9700 substantially cheaper, like $100 than NV30) and if NV30's features don't warrant the extra expense, it would be a no-brainer to get the 9700.
I can't wait for some real reviews of the 9700, complete with image quality comparisons, I really want to see what ATI's jittered AA and AF looks like. :)
Of course I'm equally excited to see the same with the NV30......

With the R9700 coming out (according to Best Buy) almost mid-Sept, there is not going to be enough lead-time for ATi to drop their prices like they have been doing to the R8500 to keep it competitive.
I think there MAY be a $50 difference between the 2, but that's just my guess (idly enough, I'm rarely wrong, I have no idea why either???)...ATi usually has a good price/performance ratio (after the drivers were basically fixed).

there's a new 3dmark for each version of DX.

I think that everything depends upon whether the nv30 uses a 256bit bus or not. If it doesnt then clock speed and features are going to mean the difference.

BTW to ati_lover,
how are people who bought gf4s "dumbasses?" the gf4 ti4200 wasn't overpriced by any stretch of the imagination.
To me R300 and GF4 are two different generations of cards, so why beating the dead horse? Okay, yea...R300 beats GF4...wow

I dont think id ever consider switching over why bother Nvidia has worked perfectly for me since I started using their products and im happy with them:)

some people just can't get over the fact that newer technology(depending on market position of course) should win. i guess this comes from the days of the 3D Wars, when there were so many different competitors, and many different companies throwing new high end cards into the market, but where there was a clear market leader. AKA, 3dfx dominated the 3d revolution until the TNT2-V3 War, and then nvidia dominated until the release of the R8500, that is.

Well its the same with any new card coming out.
People have had no problems whatsoever comparing First the GF3 Ti series to an 8500, and then comparing a GF4 Ti series to an 8500...and obviously the 8500 wasnt created to tackle either of those lines/generations of cards. To some people that may have been the same feeling you get when seeing R300 compared to GF4s.
It will be natural for the GF4s to be compared to 9700, which in turn will be compared to Nv30, with each later released card outperforming the previous.

I have owned both nVidia and ATi and I have no hate for either company... both cards acted as I expected. In my system until last week was a 8500 (fried during a HUGE power surge :() that I enjoyed owning... sure there were some drivers issues at first, but overall it was a solid card. With the frying of my system and video card, I am planning on replacing it with the fastest thing that I can and it just happens to be the 9700 at this moment in time. I tend not to show any preference to particular brand names because by acting as a fanboy for either brand usually just limits what options I have as a consumer... if I did I would still be paying $700 for the latest processors on the market... to me that's silly when there are other options available on the market that perform similarly.

The Geforce4 TI4200 performance is soo damn close to the TI4600. The 4200 OC easily and you can OC to 4600 levels. I'm saying that it's stupid to buy a 400 dollar card when a 200 dollar one performs within 5%! The 4200 is a good value.

Hey, I can overclock my Ti4600 so the performance difference goes up to 10%! So there. :p :D
I would very much like to see Ati's 0.13 part with ddrII this year to make a pic between nv30 and the new r300!
The 0.13 process and ddrII will help nv30 to get the upper hand but only if they have a 256 bus memory!Gf4 had 73m trans(if I'm right)and nvidia got 300mhz!Ati made 325mhz with over 110m trans!!!Nv30's 120m trans won't help it reach very high clock speeds in my opinion even with 0.13 process.Don't be surprised if Nv30 makes ~325-350mhz!!!Remember the jump from gf1 to gf2 or gf2-gf3 and so on?Maybe the ex-3dfx guys have a few cards up their sleaves, I'don't know!!!
Then again I might be totally wrong!!:D
