Don't let the diminutive size fool you, this camera means business. The added 1/2" of LCD real estate seems to be worth the cost as zooming in on 7.1 megapixels allows you to see just how solid the focus is for a given shot.

Here are a few photos in varying light conditions and modes, resized using IRFanView's Lanczos filter from the native resolution of 3072x2304.

The PC pic was in low light. The critter pictures used the macro mode.

The video capture is quite good as well, though I wish it had an external mic option. There tends to be a bit of background noise flutter that is unavoidable, but it ain't a video camera, right? I can't really complain. There is also a sequence mode that will snap shots as long as you hold down the button. I need to research this feature a bit more...

Let me know if you have any specific questions, I'll try to answer.

Is that 2.5" LCD as low res as dpreview says it is (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd550/page11.asp)? Looks like this camera is as good/better as the SD500 was, nice pics BTW.

Plenty of resolution so far as i can tell. It certainly isn't "high" resolution, but for onsite proofs, it works well.

I think it is slightly faster than the SD500 with the added screen. I don't think I would replace an SD500 with this camera, kind of like getting a KO card to replace an OC, heh. I am extremely pleased with it so far...

And thanks for the compliment. This camera has many more features than the SD100 it is replacing and will probably be a springboard into more serious photography down the road. I am still learning and there a sh*tload to learn.

Cool. I thought that dpreview's comments about the display were nitpicky at best. It's not like you use the display to watch a movie or even showcase your photos...just for quick proofing like you say. I like how Cannon kept the optical viewfinder. I kind of miss that at times with the Sony DSC-T33 that I bought for my wife a few months ago.

I wish I had that over my 7.2 Sony dsc-p150. Earlier in the year when I bought it the best SD only had 4 megapizels.
