Well, now that the NV30 is finally on the horizon, I should be ready to piece together a new system at last. Here is what I'm looking at, please tell me what you think.

Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Athlon XP 2600, 2700, or 2800
2 x 256MB Corsair XMS PC3200
Geforce FX Ultra ($$$!)
80GB WD SE HDD (maybe 2X RAID 0)
16X DVD
Sony CRX140E from this system

That's pretty much all I've decided, if you have any suggestions on monitors, speakers, cases, etc, I'd greatly appreciate them! Basically I'm looking for a cheap case with at least 2 preinstalled fans, 5.1 speakers that won't rape my budget (aka < $150) and a monitor that can do 1600x1200 @ at least 75hz. I've seen the Iiyama monitors, and I'm quite interested. Also, is it going to be worth waiting for Serial ATA drives to be available? And would it really be worth some extra $$$ to buy a new CD-RW?

Anyway, thanks for the recommendations in advance.

I'm afraid I don't understand...I just wanted some opinions...

Anyway, right now in this system this is what I've got...

PIII 600E (coppermine) @ 600mhz
Delta MP2-BX-X (Intel 440BX)
384MB PNY PC133
10GB Maxtor 5400rpm
30GB Maxtor 7200rpm
Hercules GF2MX/400 64MB
SB Live! Value
Sohoware 10/100
Compaq 1500 monitor

Now maybe you can see why its time for a new system... :D

As you can see madthumbs, I really need a boost in the graphics and I've been waiting for the GFX for a long time now. Also, I was looking at that Logitech setup, and that's probably what I'll get.

Any other opinions?

ouch man, that system's gotta hurt. Being the Intel fanboy that I am, I can only suggest a P4 system like a 2.8 Ghz LOL. You can build a sytem that is either near or the same as that system only based off of P4 for around the same price. Well, a little bit more, but you don't have to put up with stiff socket a clips or risk cracking cores or high temperatures. Also, well, you are looking at A7N8X mobo, but, P4 chipsets I'd say are on the most part more reliable and and provide more consistent performance, P4 mobos also cost less so you can put that money into a faster cpu or something else that interests you. Now, I know alot of you guys won't like what I posted, but hey, don't flame me, its my opinion, and thats what stncttr908 is asking for. Anyways, that AMD system is great, if you want it, go for it, will give you great performance and I'm sure you'll enjoy it man!;)

Well, I'd consider it but I don't know **** aboot p4 chipsets compared to AMD. Someone would have to help me there.

Looking at what I've got (see above) I really need a new system...that and I want to have 2 working decent systems of my own, that way I'll be more inclined to try things, knowing that I have a backup. ;)

Thats the same system I have :)

If your going to get an AMD..Get the one with the 333FSB..I would also get the 1 year warranty if your going to get it from newegg..OEM's only have a 30 day warranty I believe..

It cost 17$ extra...

Check for some nice cases at OCsystem.com..You can mod your own..

Gl with the system..

Are you happy with it? :D

OEM processors are a no-no in my book.

$17 is a small price for a 1 year warranty and a decent HSF.

Thanks for the link, a lot of options!

And thanks for the good wishes.

how much? I have a viewsonic A90-2 19"/18" viewable, has .22mm dot pitch, but max res is only 1600x1200 and it can't really do crazy refresh rates. I think max I can get at 1600x1200 is 85Hz
