I noticed the news about Silicon Graphics's shares suspended from The Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27390) and checked CNNMoney (http://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?shownav=true&symb=SGI) for the status of SGI, look very scary as their losses widen. I think that are really very strange thing happen to SGI who created OpenGL, why SGI and what going on at SGI?

Maybe here is a conspiracy thing going on at Micrsoft wanted to destroy OpenGL before they launch Windows Vista? :eek2:

If I can remember correct wasn't Jen-Hsun Huang was an employee of SGI? If SGI goes down and I beleive Nvidia will acquired SGI for OpenGL technologies, patents and properties.

I thought that ATI had hired a lot of the SGI guys?

Anyway, wow, they've been around for such a long time it's hard to think of them going under.

Do your research! SGI was just one of the companies that developed Open Graphics Library (Open GL). Microsoft was one of the founding companies, though they left the Open GL board back in 2003.

Here is the wikipedia discription and origin of Open GL.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_GL

Open Gl is still the API of choice for professionals and scientific research, where D3D is the API of choice for PC gaming. See users in this wikipedia page.

Open GL will not die. It just will be faded away from gaming completely, unless another company can create a OS that can compete with Windows. It aint happening. ID software is pobably the only company that will use Open GL for gaming now.

An it's already happening now, even when SGI still has life in them.

Yes here are already 2 Amiga OS, AROS - an open source OS 3.1 ported to cross platforms and modern and updated PowerPC based Amiga OS 4.0 should be release later this year. The modern version are finally break away from the classic Amiga custom chipset that Amiga were trapped with it for the last 20 years and now can use latest 3D graphics cards chipsets. Microsoft saw the Amiga as threat to Windows since 1985, they refused to gave Commodore the Microsoft BASIC language for Amiga when the Amiga still has and had the most advanced hardware and OS technology included true multi-tasking. Until today Windows XP and Vista still cant match Amiga's very unique features like Kickstart ROM, Amiga Early Setup Control (AESC like BIOS on PC), autoboot, autoconfig etc. No OS ever matching Amiga OS until up to latest 4.0 booting time of 6 seconds from cold boot and 3 seconds warm boot straight to Workbench desktop or 3 second from cold and warm boot to load a game from floppy disk, CD, DVD or DVDRW just like boot games on consoles. Windows XP boot time are much faster and 30 secs better than Mac OS X and Linux boot time took longer like 1 min.

Maybe one day Sony could get third better lucky to acquire Amiga Inc and use the OS loaded with the Cell based PC to compete the x86 PC and Windows after 2 failed bids in 1985 and 1995.

Athlon, I'm curious (please don't take this the wrong way), but is English a second language for you? That last post just seemed to be all over the place and I was curious. If you were just getting ahead of yourself when you were typing...please slow down. If you were drunk, please don't drink and post.

But if English is your second language, then no biggie!

 Of course my english my secondary language and BSL my primary language. If you didnt know what BSL is, it British Sign Language, sometime it take longer to convert it to english properly. :D

I got two Amigas. :D

A guy I know wants me to get a Pegasos system, but I really can't justify the expense of such a system. Looks cool tho.
