View Full Version : GeForce 6 series question...
In short I was gonna buy a 6600 to tide me over but the misses has said "just get a 6800 cause that will last you a little longer" :D
But I am lost. There dosnt seem to be many 256meg versions :( and whats the difference between XT, LE and TD. I was under the impression LE was a lite version so to speak.
Anyone know a decent link to purchase a "decent" branded 256meg version as they all seem to be 128.

your looking at the budget cards. the standard 6800gt and 6800ultra are 256mb.

I think it would help if you could give us a price cap. Also, if I recall correctly, the price for AGP 6800 has been going UP recently secondary to lack of next gen AGP cards. As such you MIGHT be better off getting a "gently used" one off here or anandtech when somebody upgrades to a PCI rig for the new 7800s.

Well I dont really have a budget so I was looking at any of these (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=12663165209&action=c2hvd3N1YmNhdGVnb3J5X3BhZ2U=&subcat_uid=670)
Then I saw a bunder from Gigabyte here (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=85287)
If I get the bundle, i could get a Athlon64 3.5gig cpu and move to have the board long enough to upgrade to PCI-E later on. Decisions Decisions. :D
OK guys.. update..
I went for the Gigabyte bundle and and 64 3.5 cpu.
Im thinking power supply.
What does everyone suggest for power. I was looking at the antec true blue 480watts. ? linky (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=12694057076&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=43567)
also I just purchased my amd chip with a fan included. "AMD (Venice) Athlon 64 3500+ 939pin 512Kb L2 Cache 90nm Retail Boxed Processor With 3 Year Warranty and Fan Included." Im assuming this is all the coolent required ?

You might want to check out a 7800GT dude. Over here 6800Ultra are more expensive than 7800GTs and 7800GTs are only $70 NZD more expensive than 6800GTs. So yeah check it out, that's assuming you are willing to dump your AGP board.
Oh and BTW i'm not sure I believe you when you said your girlfriend let you go a more expensive Vid card :)
