Apparently this has been going on for a while now, though I haven't heard anything about it til today:

The rioting began last Thursday after two teenagers were accidentally electrocuted and a third was injured while apparently trying to escape from police by hiding in a power substation. Officials have said police were not chasing the boys.

That is pretty much the story of America these days. Getting blamed for something inane and then everybody just suddenly attacks you over it.
In some areas, unemployment runs as high as 20 percent -- more than twice the national average, de Villepin told lawmakers.

Looks like the police have been shot at and beaten as well according to the article. I couldn't imagine anything like this happening in the US, perhaps France doesn't train their riot control teams well enough?

IMO what should be done is they should declare martial law and establish curfews in these areas. Frances pussiness will get the better of them though. A couple of people are going to have to die before they realize this.

I guess you have all forgotten the Los Angeles riots of 92 then. That took a few days to die out and that was just ONE city.
that was one city and took three days. not two weeks and it didnt spread like this....so i take it your the one that forgot..

Regardless, it shows that the cause of riots like this is not obviously Islam. It also shows that it can happen in any country. Many rioters don't care about any reason behind the riot. They just join in.

That isn't the case with this one. These people are making strategic movements. I've been reading all about this for a few days before these threads were posted to this forum. All of the articles are reporting that some centralized source is organizing these attacks. They have already found more than one place where people have been mass producing incindiary bombs and other improvised explosives.

and it was in Los Angeles, and this one is in France. And about 50 people were killed in the Los Angeles one and only 1 or two have been in france so far...I am well aware they are both different. The point is they are both riots, in which there is violence and destruction of property.

The LA riots show that the the cause of riots like this is not obviously Islam. There is another clear cause. The riots in France, like the riots in LA appear to have been triggered by an event that infuriated a certain community. It then escalates. It doesn't appear planned, and yes after a week I would expect rioters in multiple cities to be coordinating with each other.

They want to be autonomous part of France seperate from the rest of France. They want shariah to be their law instead of the laws of France. This is about them being Muslims. Finally, someone who has hit on that fact.
That is totally correct, they want more say on local authority policy, run using muslim ways and means. Fair enough if they are the majority in the area, BUT...if it totally afflicts with an entire countries way of life.... then leave.
If I gathered up a few thousand guys who insisted that there should be a naked pole dancer at the end of every street in my town because it was part of our "fundemental belief system" and to then trash the place when told "Erm, No" would be nonsense.
Just shoot them I say.
