Thoughts and commentary on the week ten of teh College Football season.

Virginia Tech - OVERRATED clap clap clapclapclap - The U absolutely owned Va Tech from the moment the whistle blew. All the things that I saw in VT that baffled me as to why they were still undefeated were exploited by the Canes. Vick's careless attitude with the football was reminiscent of Vince Young's first season in rotation. The Hokies have speed, but not depth with speed. It was exploited as the Canes kept bringing in fresh legs and dominated.

Miami should be number three behind UT and USC. They are a far better team than Alabama. Bama's offense needs to be reminded that going all the way to the other end of the field is a GOOD thing. You can not blame that pitiful display on missing Prothro. Yeah he is good, but one guy and offense does not make. At least if UT were to lose Vince *knocking on wood*, we KNOW we can run the ball.

USC gives up twenty-one to Stanford. A tree. Three touchdowns to a Tree. VY and the boys are licking their chops. I think Vegas has USC -5 right now if they were to face UT. Better start reevaluating that...

The Bama stuff reminds me of another point; SEC offense sucks. Not just one or two teams, but all of it. Everyone keeps pointing at the team defense stats. Well, if the entire conference SUCKS offensively, the entire conference is going to look bad-ass on paper. But watch those games. The receivers can't run routes, the QB's can't hit the broad side of a barn and the games are just tedious and boring. The SEC has recruited itself into the defense only conference. None of the offensively explosive players want to go there. Not because of the fear of the defense, but more because they don't want to run routes to watch yet another running play setting up "field position" for yet another lame three and out. Did anyone watch the mighty *chuckle* ND defense shut down Tennessee? ND tried giving Phil the game with field position that would give High School teams a shot at putting up at least three. Spurrier and Meyer are their only hope...

The current Brian Championship Series top ten:

1) Texas
2) USC
3) Miami
4) Penn State
5) Bama
6) FSU
7) Texas Tech
8) LSU
9) Va Tech
10) Ohio State

Yeah, I'm biased, but this is my current list based on games I have actually watched. OSU is the best two loss team I think I have ever watched play. The common theme is "the any given day" theory. Talent+Coaching+Confidence. The Red Raiders should scare anyone they play. Penn State is full if confidence, despite the heart breaking loss. I am still pulling for a Gray family feud of PSU/UT Rose Bowl (Mom is a Nittany Lion, I was raised thinking JoePa was God). USC loses one game, Miami lose to FSU again in the ACC championship game and Bama goes down next week, it would be hard not to give the nod to Joe Pa and his talented freshmen.

Yesterday sucked in terms of college football. Penn State won big, Miami wonn big, Boston College lost, etc. etc.

Forgive me, but I don't see your 'Horns "hooking 'em" in the Rose Bowl of all places against USC.

Hater. Heh.

Let's look at the dream match-up, and why not, everyone else already is...

Horns' defensive speed and schemes vs. USC's offense - We have speed at every position, just like SC. The main thing, though, is that SC WILL NOT see a defensive line as good as Texas all season. When we get pressure with only four or five rushing, Lienart will have to make quick throws. The UT safeties fly to the ball and our corners are aggressive. We would be the best defense SC will have seen all year, by a mile. Sure, USC will have some explosive plays and score points. But keep in mind, every day in practice, UT's defense gets to see players of Lendale White and Reggie Bush's calibre. Ramonce Taylor is evolving into something we did not have at the beginning of the year. USC will have to pay attention to him on every down as UT will have to pay attention to Bush. The major difference is that UT's D gets to practice against Vince Young. Lienart is a sitting duck compared to Young. Watch the Colorado game. The big O-line and a far better pure athlete than Lienart, Klatt, got pounded by the UT D-Line. Watch the OSU game when Zwick was in the game. Even if you give the SC the advantage in this match-up...

SC defense vs. UT offense - I mean really. Blah blah blah, SC's D is improving, blah blah blah, they are gaining experience, blah blah blah, they have speed, blah blah blah. This is a mismatch any way you look at it. Young, Charles, Taylor and Thomas. Four guys that can hurt you EVERY time they touch the ball. SC's defense will have 1v1 practice nightmares. Trouble is, how does SC stop Young? He loves being down, he loves the comeback, he loves silencing hostile crowds, he thrives on adversity and he refuses to lose. Sorry, but SC can not stop the Longhorn offense. They have given up 20ppg and let a ND team light them up for 31.

So, can SC keep UT's O in check as well as UT can keep SC's?

...and as far as the home field advantage, remember that only a portion of tickets go to the fans from either school. The rest are corporate owned. No matter what, there will be more Orange in the crowd than on any road game UT has played, aside from the Baylor game yesterday, heh. Certainly a lot more crowd support han at the OSU game...

Man I felt soooo bad for Baylor yesterday.

That was just soooo wrong :(

But dang, GO HORNS

USC v/s UT should be interesting.

Offense v/s Defense.

Thing bout young is, as good as he is physically, he is not as good a passer as we may like him to be. This could lead to potential turnover issues but other than that, I give the edge to UT ( )

And.

Will Bevo be in town like he was yesterday? :D

Young makes things happen. Sometimes it results in a turnover, but with out taking the chances, the big play never occurs. Did you see that TD pass to hitting the receiver PERFECTLY in stride? He's accurate enough to win a championship...

Yah, and I also remember that pass almost right after that during the next drive where he nearly hit the linebacker perfectly in stride for an interception :)

I love young and he's the best person to get us the win v/s USC, but he is not a good passer, yet.

I may be drinking from the Kool-Aid, but the numbers don't lie. Young is a good passer. Great, Idunno, but he is reading deenses far better and once they stopped tinkering with his throwing motion, his accuracy has gone up.

Yah, he's better every year and as he spends more time on the field, he will get better still :D

His confidence and his running are what I love the best :D

Aggies gonna get pwned
