View Full Version : SLI Newbie needs help badly...

Bear with me here, I'm a newbie at this SLI stuff!

I just bought a second 7800 GTX card. I have it all installed and I have clicked the "Enable SLI multi-GPU" checkbox. I can see the temps for both cards, etc....so everything appears to be working.

However, in games I am simply not seeing any sort of performance boost. I have tried everything from Everquest 2 to Quake 4.

Am I missing something? Is there something else I need to enable?

That should be all you have to do...to really see any boost you'll need to crank the AA an AF up to like 4x/16x (respectively) and crank the resolution to at least 1600x1200.

Anything lower...SLIed 7800GTXs just isn't worth it...unless you use like SLIAA 16x

Ah, you are correct sir. I have to working now, and I must say Half-Life 2: Lost Coast (Quake 4 is so weak compared to those graphics) running with SLI enabled is staggering. Wow....

Thanks for the help

Here is another one for ya...

I'm not seeing SLI8x or SLI16x in my antialiasing choices...but the help menu says those options should be available....ideas?

Thanks again,

Do you have "SLI antialiasing" selected for the SLI rendering mode?

You may still have do a Coolbits regedit to activate SLI antialiasing. Here is the link.

Ahhh...many thanks once again!

That did the trick.

Anyone have any recommendations for running SLI?

I see I can set it to run several different ways, or is it best just to choose "Auto-Select"?

I tried messing with it in Everquest 2, and noticed I got some studdering when I tried running SLI8x....should I even bother in a game like that? I had though running 2 7800GTXs that EQ2 would not present a problem....

AFR is the preferred performance mode so try to use it whenever possible.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Does anyone have a good resource for SLI tips/tricks, etc? Rather than me having to bug y'all all the time. :-)

One final question I do have is, what do y'all recommend for antialiasing? Let the "app decide" or set it to something permanantly in the settings?
