watchout, newbie in the forums :)

Anyhow.. My brother just got a new LeadTek A280 le TD Ti4200 video card to replace his TNT Riva 2 that he had been running for years. The TNT, a PCI model, worked fine. He pulled it, installed the new one, and the new one works. Sort of. If he does anything that puts any stress on the card, the computer locks. 3DMarkSE isn't capable of making it past the first test. It's not the RAM, I ran an extensive test on it, it passed. It's not the PSU, I tried a different one, same problems. It's not the video card, it works perfectly with my Soyo. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

It's probably the motherboard. Check this link out:

Another thing that can cause crashing is heat. Try removing the case cover and blowing a house fan on it. If that fixes the problems, then heat is the problem. Better heat sinks, applying better thermal grease to existing heat sinks, or adding case fans can all help.

Turns out, it's a hardware defect in the 1.0 and 1.1 revisions of the boards--and it's been fixed in revision 2.0.

Take a look at:

Gigabyte is offering the repair for free, it appears.

Thanks for the help!
