Hey, i'm thinking about getting new drives... Any reccomendations? I don't want a combo drive, and the dvd drive should have a good cd-rom read speed... my current reads cd's at 20x which is MUCH too slow!
Thanks!
P.S. I just had to use these faces....

For the DVD ROM drive any Pioneer is great(slot loader of course) :D
As for the CDRW this (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=44457) is a good product to get....8 more days till mine is sent:(

I can wholeheartedly recommend Pioneer DVD-ROM drives. Slot loading drive is more cool, IMO. Also, snag yourself a Lite-On CD-RW. Newegg usually has some awesome deals on the 48246S, including under $60 with free shipping. No drive comes close to touching the Litey for that kind of money.
Edit: I noticed you had a 40x Philips drive which should be more than adequate. Anything above that and you save at most 1 minute from CD burning times. So I don't think upgrading your CD burner is all that necessary.

Freaky, vampireuk!
I had to get my parents a couple of drives about a month ago, and of course they got a Liteon 48X burner and a Pioneer DVD 106S.
They're so good and so quiet (compared to my old 16x Liteon burner and 6x Pioneer slot dvd) that I may just have to get a couple myself. Should come in at under £80 for the pair :D
Edit: Forgot to agree with Saturnotaku about the CDRW. 40X is plenty fast enough, unless you have tons of money and need that 24X RW speed.

I would say Lite-on for the CD-r/rw. I just got a 52/24/52, I love it
Dont pay Asus's inflated prices when you can buy the IDENTICAL thing for less though lite-on....YES LITE-ON Makes a large number of companies CD-RW drives. I believe I read a stat somewhere the 70% of all drives put into puters last years was a lite-on in some variation.
And Pioneer for DVD. I got mine right after 16x came out....not a problem with it EVER!!! (I was even able to region unlock it..........SCREW CSS)

i don't know about the 70% figure, but there are definitely a lot of rebadged lite-ons out there :)
