Yesterday my buddy got an evga 7800GT. Nice card, but I am a bit confused. Out of the box his card was clocked at 470/1200  and scored 7572 in 3DMark05......Do those clocks seem a bit high? I thought standard 7800GT's were clocked at like 400/1050? My 7800GTX OC costs about $150 more and only gets about 8100 in 3DMark05.

What is the real difference between the GT and GTX? Is it just the 20vs24 pipes? Any vertex shaders cut off?

I didn't know the 2.0ns memory of the GT could hit 600MHz (or is it really 2.0ns.....)

AFAIK, standard 7800GT clocks are 400/1000, with 20 pipelines/7 Vertex Shaders.

Yeah, the specs for the e-GeForce 7800 GT CO are 470/1100 and maybe he just bumped the memory up to 1200.

Their regular GT is 445/1070.

Ok, I went to evga's site and I guess he has the 7800GT CO.

According to the site that card should be clocked at 470/1100, but his is at 470/1200..... anways, seems that this card is faster per dollar then a GTX.

But the GTX has 4 more pixel pipelines.

Be warned though .. a friend on other site had the card running @470/1200 but he got artifacts so he had to lower the clocks to 1150 or something.

Ok, I'll let my friend know that.

This happens when overclocking anything, overclocking resualts will and do vary.

I have my Point of View 7800gt running at 480/1200 without any artifacts, this is while playing FEAR and Quake 4, and none in 3D2k05.

you could OC your GTX higher to get a better score.
But dont do it if you just want the Hi 3Dmark score.

Also keepin mind that the GTX runs more silent. Better invest a few bucks more and go for the GTX or save a few bucks and buy a cheap GT and OC it yourself.

True. My GTX gets 9105 3DMark95 score running at 532/1382:D very stable, no artifacts...
(Leadtek 7800 GTX extreme)

I mean 3Dmark05, not 95:spank:

I get 507/1260 on my XFX GT but I can only get 8400 on 3dmark05.

You card should run faster than that! Make sure your card has recent driver. WHat is your CPU? I have FX-55.

You should call your manufacturer and tell them what its clocked at, and ask if its supposed to be that way or if you should lower the clocks.

That way if it takes a dump and they see the clocks, they dont think u flashed new bios in it to overclock or some bs.

I'm just confused as to how fast the GT is compared to the GTX, it's pretty much the same

Oh and btw the 7800GT CO is now $319 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130256

eVGA accidently set the memory speed at 1200Mhz in the Rev 2 of their BIOS and thats what cause artifacts. Tell your friend to upgrade to Rev 3 and i should not have any problem.

Here's a link for more explanation and to download the new BIOS

I bought an eVGA 7800GT CO last week at www.ncix.com .... still waiting anxiously to receive it

I can run it a little faster but it becomes unstable. I have clocked 512/1272. My card is a GT not a GTX. I'm running a 150 Opteron clocked at 2.8 on air with stock voltage. I thought the 8400 was a good score when I compared to other GTs scores.

 Oh, GT! That is amazing score! Mine is GTX.
