okay, so i am getting another 7800gt to have an SLI setup, but i dont quite know about SLI AA in general. i know that using the SLIAA means each gpu is going to render the entire scene and blend them together. but what if i just use regular 4X AA? not anything SLI.. i will just get the super fast SLI gaming with 4xAA right?

Nope theres no SLI4xAA.
SLI AA starts with 8xAA & 16xAA. when using SLI AA you wont be running AFR or SFR .. notice that! its either this or that.
& since most games these days already have AFR/SFR SLI profiles , you hardly need to use SLI AA expect for games that have no other SLI profiles or running on Single GPU only.

a good use of SLIAA (8x,16x) would be for old games with no SLI profile or games that are running smooth even @8xAA,16xAF ... Warcraft 3 for exmaple.

of course the regular AA modes will be available as usuall! (2x,4x,8x). you can use 16xAA(single) in some games but the performance hit would be too large.

so the performance hit using 4X AA will be a joke right?

Correct. The regular AA modes are what gets used when using the SLI performance modes (SFR, AFR, AFR2, etc.).

The SLI AA modes come in handy in older games where performance is already really good (i.e. don't need a boost in performance) or for games that don't make much use of SLI's peformance modes or have some compatibility issue with the performance modes. So, it's basically just another option to help make use of the other card so that it's not sitting there doing nothing.

It depends on the game :) I cannot run Fear at 4xAA 1600x1200.

For most games 4xAA is a breeze though.
