My SLI system has outgrown it's Lian Li PC-65 case. It's just too small. Need something with more room.

Now, my mobo has a steam pipe for cooling on the south-bridge chipset. Don't I want to avoid a case where the mobo mounts upside down because of this? I'm thinking the steam pipe isn't going to serve it's purpose if it's upside down.

Anyway, what do you guys recommend? Preferably something available at Newegg or Zipzoomfly if possible.

Thanks.

What do you think about the Antec P180, it doesn't look as good as the Lian-Li cases but the mobo is right side up and the cooling is far superior to anything on the market?

What's your budget as well?

The P180 has nice height, but I'd like something a little deeper.

Was looking at the Lian Li PC-7077A (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811112049) but, it's kinda fugly. It does seem to meet my criteria though.

No budget really.....within reason.

Antec P-160WF

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129144

mobo tray,cd temperature and fan control display, blue LED lights, side window, filtered 120mm fans, psu compartment, 1.2 anodized aluminum

5 star rating on Teh Egg by 468 voters. the reviews are nice, except for a couple of them lol

im getting it around christmas time

EDIT: Your motherboard won't fit very good in it, because the top PCI-E slot is too high up to fit.

OMG I forgot to mention the CM Stacker 830. It looks amazing, has TONS of cooling, easy to work with, and it's just plain HUGE

That is a nice looking case. But I can't find an online retailer that carries it.

Another vote for the CMStacker, with this case you'll never need or want another one :D

Regarding the steam pipe (It's actually a heat pipe). It will work in any configuration.

To that end, I can't help but recommend the V1000 (http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/lianli_v1000plus/).

and to back up what einstein states, the heat pipe is thermodynamics based, hot moves to cold to try to balance, only the hot always stays hot. Nothing actually moves other than energy.

The V1000 is 3" taller than my current case but is the same depth as my PC-65 (19.3"), this is what worries me. As it is now I only have about 1" of space from the back of my 7800GTX's to the back of the HDD's and CD drives. This is where I'm looking to add more room.

I know someone who has a V1100 (very similar to the V1000) and was very unhappy with it. The problem? His 15k Cheetah drive would resonate a howling sound through the case while mounted in the aluminum brackets. He tried different slots, adding washers, etc., but couldn't get rid of it. He finally put the HDD in an external SCSI enclosure. I'm wondering if I'd run into a similar problem with my 10k Raptor.

As for the heat pipe, I was under the assumption that since it has a type of liquid in it that turning it upside down would affect it's performance. But after doing some research on it you seem to be correct. The orientation has little, if any, affect on performance (for cpu and gpu coolers at least).

Still can't find an online retailer that has that CM Stacker 830. Are they discontinued or something?

Thanks for the replies.

Ok, I just found out the CM Stacker 830 won't be available until 11/20/05, lol.

I think I'm going with the Lian Li PC-7077A.

Thanks again.

Clearance hasn't been an issue for me after using the 7800GT and the 6600GTs with AC6s. You can see with the AC6s, there is still quite a bit of room depending on the depth of the DVD drive.

I have not had any problems with drive noise. The V100 comes with hardware to mounts drives into plastic rails and then locked down. Not sure what caused your friends issues.

If you have not ruled out the V1000, let me know. I can take a measurement or specific pictures for you.

What's the length of your SATA cables? Whichever case I go with I'm thinking I'll need some longer cables.

I also need to make a point to be NEAT with the cabling this time around. In my current box the cabling is a horrendous mess (I'm bad about that :( )

Thanks for the pics.

Wait the 7 days and get the Stacker :):)

Use velcro straps to bind your cables together, greatest innovation known to man kind.

Personally I don't like any plastic or steal in a case so my choice is Silverstone TJ-03. I love this case its clean, big, all aluminum & has good cooling.

Wow, very nice. Definitely worth considering.

No thumb screws though?
