it must be referring to the daughter card that attaches to the left side of the 9700's core

WTF??? Any pics of that? What does the daughter card do?
My guess is something with memory modules.

Nah... dual-link DVI, VIVO, stuff like that. I guess memory expansion is a possibility but I'm not sure what the daughtercard/GPU bus is like in terms of bandwidth/connectivity so wouldn't count on it being feasible - it'd be easier just to use double-density memory chips. There were a few DC's developed for the R300/RV250 but I have only ever seen the one on the FireGL X1 (which is based around a SI TMDS chip I think) and a couple of RV250 VIVO ones for the far eastern market.

A 1/4-length DC with a second VGA on it would be cool but again, pretty much impossible.

MuFu.

P.S. You can't use DC's with any of the R300-based boards available at the moment (apart from the X1) - they need to be physically modified and have appropriate BIOS's flashed. Maybe if you are handy with a soldering iron/sheet metal cutter and your name is warp11 or John Hoek... :D

Last video card I saw that had a physical DC was a Riva 128.

Radeon 9000 VIVO - can't find a pic anymore but a DC version is made by CompPD in Korea.

Canopus Spectre WX25:

...and some different daughtercards for it:

That might be a leftover from the mid-90s where you actually COULD upgrade the memory on video cards...
