Does anyone know why a BFG 7800 gt need a 400w ps and a PNY 7800 GTX needs a minimum 350W. I just got a Dell XPS 400 with a 375w ps.Will it run the BFG 7800 gt? Thank you

I wouldn't want to say either way, but I think your be lucky to get away with running any form of 7800 on anything less than a 450W psu , and a good quality one at that.

yeah dont skimp on the psu the last thing you need is for your computer to just stop working one day. Buy a good 500w+

It's been repeatedly said on this forum and around the Web that it's not so much the wattage rating of the power supply that's important. Rather it's the +12v rating. As long as your PSU has a +12 line of 25A or higher, you'll be fine running a 78xx card.

Yes, your DELL XPS 400 will be fine with the 375 Watt Power Supply. Don't sweat it, they even ship a 7800GTX with that power supply and they wouldn't do that if it wasn't enough.

I nver had a Dell (and don't plan to :p ) but i hear they label their PSU's quite low. They are actually of quiet good quality. You should be fine.

Only one way to find out I suppose lol
Give it a whirl , if you get artifacting , over heating, screen flickering as such during games then you know there's a problem.

DO NOT BUY A PNY GEFORCE 7800

I just bought one for the system I just built. It was a PNY Geforce 7800GTX.

Right from the start I had Artifacts in Guild Wars and Fear. Video Lockups in Quake4. PNY has ZERO SUPPORT for their customers. If you goto their website www.pny.com you will notice their lack of a message board, updated bioses, or device utilities. I have RMA'd my card back to Newegg and will get a Evga card to replace it.

I would second that. I've been building computers for a little over 13 years and in that time have had a grand total of 2 vid cards fry on me. Both were PNY cards; one a ti4200 and most recently my 6800GT that took a dump the other day.

I will not buy PNY again. :thumbdwn:
