Hi folks,

Recently gone in for SLI but a bit concerned about the results in 3dMark05.

Scored 9812 on my rig using the driver built in SLI profile for 3dMark05.

Does this seem reasonable for my setup? ....I was able to clear 8000 with a single 7800GT and a mild OC so i'm a bit dumbfounded I haven't even got a 2000 pt increase. I do know that benchmarks don't always give an accurate fair depictation of performance but they do offer a good comparison between rigs.

Any advice much appreciated.

I think it's quite accurate for your setup; your being bottlenecked by your cpu... Try running it with 4xAA 16xAF @ 1600x1200 and I promise you'll see a big difference! (I don't have SLi so I can't actually promise you anything, but it should be that way unless you have problems with you setup ... :))

That looks about right for your machine.....You can always do a compairison on ORB to look at what other people are getting with a similar setup.
SLI won't double your performance if that's what you were expecting, but like Toss said you'll be smooth as silk running anything in hi-res, 4xAA, 16xAF

enjoy :)

True if you didn't change your motherboard or CPU. In my case I upgraded from a Pentium4 3.2GHz CPU with a single 6800 Ultra to an AMD 4800+ with 7800 GTX SLI and it more than doubled my 3DMark05 scores. But I digress, SLI in itself will certainly not double the performance, so your scores seem to be on par.

To be honest, the over 8000 score was achieved with 1GB ram , now have 2.
With a single 7800GT.

I don't understand why FEAR runs sluggish on 1280 by 960 with X4 AA and X8 Anistropic but runs a hell of alot better with Soft Shadows on. It really evades me!

Try running at 1600x1200 2xAA/8xAF. That seems to be the sweet spot with my system.

Seems like a lot of the review sites are getting ~10,800-11,800 depending on the cpu (FX-55 for the first score and an X2 4400+ for the second) with SLI'd 7800GTs. I can't imagine your cpu is holding you back that much.

Have you put the quality settings to high performance? I'd also disable any unnecessary background programs which won't help a ton but it might make a small difference.

Ahh, no ....that was done using the Quality setting.
So the general consensus, is that the tests are done with it set to High Performance?

I just got my second XFX 7800GT and set it up in SLI with my first one. I scored 13126 on 3Dmark05. I think I am in 9th place for the GTs with Athlon64s unless someone else has scored higher since me. Its published under my screen name. I think I can do a little better and move up the list a little, but I'm on air and I know the ones scoring 15K plus have some serious cooling.

What CPU are you running on dude?

I do all mine on HQ. A while back, I tried all of the modes and it changed less than a 100 points so I don't think it matters all that much (haven't tried it recently though). I'm not sure what mode is "acceptable" for 3DMark but it's probably Quality since I think most benchmarks are done using driver defaults.

I running an Opteron 150. All is aircooled. I put an NV Silencer 5 on my first 7800GT and I had to move it to the bottome slot. The second card has only the stock cooler. The max clock on the second card was a little slower on the core but by itself it would clock to 1315 max on the memory(not totally stable but it passed the test). You can see the results of my 3DMark05 here. It is actually a little better now.
