I noticed a lot of aliasing with Need For Speed : Most Wanted unlike many other games .. it seems that more AA + less res is favorable over less AA + higher res.
also its a good exmaple for the importance of the 8xSSAA in the nVIDIA cards.

heres a screenshots to show the difference between 0xMSAA , 4xMSAA & 8xSSAA aswell as the framerate.
notice that on FX-55/7800GTX SLI(256) the game is completely playable for me @1280x1024,8xAA,8xAF!
note : place the screenshots next to each other to see the difference clearly. also notice that @0xAA & 4xAA i was CPU limited heh.

0xAA (http://img270.imageshack.us/img270/5761/speeddemo20051116204114933xx.jpg)

4xMSAA (http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/1543/speeddemo20051116204035016dd.jpg)

8xSSAA (http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/6660/speeddemo20051116204327503wy.jpg)

in fact even @8xAA some jaggies are still visible , but still much better than 4xAA.
now feel free to post screenshots to compare performance or IQ etc.. (GTX512s are most welcome :D)

Installing it now, is there a sliprofile for it that works the way it should? I seem to recall that you made a profile for the demo, right?
Just got 2x7800gtx so I am looking forward to this game a lot... Hoping it's gonna run well..

Tr either "2400001" or "2430001" .. the should provide good SLI performance.

Agreed, AA doesn't look all that hot. How to you apply your settings, only in Nvidia panel or only ingame or both?

This shot is 1280x960
Max AA ingame settings.
8xAA in nvidia panel.
Supersampling on
Gamma AA on.

I am thinking there is something wrong with my settings, now way I should be getting more frames than your setting. Your 8xAA looks much better than mine.... Something fishy is going on :) Anyways, it's quite a cool game. Never been into racing games all that much but this one is entertaining.

Hmm can you get the same car in the scene ?? (red Mustang) .
BTW the in-game max seems to point to 6xAA which isnt supported so nothing happens to me when i use it. theres your problem i guess.
try setting the slider to to 2nd bar only. 8xSS from CP.

besides you are using the retail game right?? i'm using the demo .. could it be more optimised ?? hmm ..

plus the 960 vs 1024 difference :D

Yup, this is retail...

2nd bar on AA ingame and 8xSS from panel...
1280x960, can't get the red mustang out yet :)

I guess it could be a little more optimized than the demo, that would be nice.

Hmm dunno what to say since i dont have the retail , but your performance is certainly good. i guess you are good to go! :D

I've been using SLI 8x AA because it runs quite a bit smoother than AFR2. AFR2 causes some glitches and pauses in the game's video scenes. I don't get any glitches when SLI is disabled in single card mode, or as long as SLI AA is enabled everything works fine.

Are you sure ? because SLI8xAA isnt working for me with the demo .. only SLI16xAA. (or its slower than AFR2 8xAA at best.)

Yeah SLI 8x AA is working fine here. Maybe try turning AA off in the game settings.

Thanks i'll check for that later.

NP. It's probably slower than AFR2 just like you mentions but it gets rid of the slight video glitching and pausing issues that I was having with SLI.

I dont get these glitches .. the demo seems to run fine for me hmm .. are you using the 81.94 ?

rewt
11-16-05, 06:16 PM
Yes 81.94. The videos glitch and pause in SLI mode. Weird that it doesn't happen with SLI disabled , or when using SLI AA :-/ But it happens with SFR, AFR, AFR2, and Single GPU in SLI. Perhaps I'll give a different profile a try a little later after I eat dinner.

I will be giving this game a bash later on me thinks.
Trouble is, I reverted back to the 81.89s because I overall get better performance with those. Hmmm

Could someone running the 81.94s do me a favour and check to see what the number is associated to the game profile in nvapps.xml?

I have to use the 89s cos of performance issues with other games. :-(

Theres no profile yet for the game even in the 81.94. i added my own custom profile.

Seriously , sure I saw one there. Strange
What have you had best luck with so far?
I tried SFR but it literally does nothing LOL the bar stays at bottom of screen.

I used AFR2 with the value "2400001" it seems to give me the best performance possible under the 81.94 drivers.

To be honest, I second the SLI AA x8 being the smoothest option .....not as fast as AFR2 perhaps but its less "glitchy" ....hard to explain, its simply a smoother game, with or without V Sync makes no odds, I get no tearing whatsoever. Well pleased, amazed that this mode can be used in a new game.

Great i'll be testing the SLI8xAA soon & report back.

Here's the an ingame screenie using the SLI AA x8, may notice things look a tad hazy, that's only because I had just let go of the Nos boost lol
This game runs so sweet, surpassed all my expectations.
