I just found out that a special version of that game will be released (here in Germany at least) that will be only available by download (over 5GB). The retail version (3CDs, 1,4GB) basically looks and plays like a PS2 port. I did rent it and finished it withing maybe 6 hours. It´s not a bad game though.

Anyway, the special "Gamers Edition" has these min. specs:

OS: Windows XP
CPU: Pentium IV 3.0 GHZ /AMD 3000+
RAM: 2 GB
VIDEO CARD: 256 MB video card (Pixel Shader 3.0 and Vertex Shader 3.0)
Soundcard: DirectX 9.0c compartible, EAX 3.0
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c
Free HD space: at least 5 GB

Supported video cards prior to the release:
ATI X1800/NVIDIA 6800 or better

The site that offers this version is here:
http://www.gamesload.de/de/shop/adventure/00613.php

The files can be downloaded already, but a key code needs to be purchased (this "feature" will be activated on November 17).

They do have screenshots, but they are way too tiny and I´m curious how this version really looks like. Does anyone know more details about this version? Will this version also be released in the US?

Interesting... maybe a port of the XB360 version? And where can I get this version in the U.S.?

I heard King Kong for the xBox 360 blows....:(
The PC Demo wasn't too shabby itself, but not worth purchasing....
If i want to play a game of prehistoric animals battling each other, then i'd whoop out Primal Rage ;)

Check it out!

Exclusively at Gamesload, King Kong fans also receive the "PC Gamer’s Edition” featuring higher graphic resolution. It has a data volume of 6 gigabytes, transmitted in several file packets.

That's sweet. Those T-Rex's looked BADASS and they'd look even sweeter in high-res.

I´m really curious how this game looks like in this special version, 1.4GB vs. 6GB of data is a HUGE difference and if it actually uses much better textures, and more advanced shader effects, it might look really really nice. I´m worried about the min. specs, I don´t meet them, nor on the CPU (XP2700), RAM (1GB) and video card side (my 6800nu has only 128MB), so if sh!t happens I´m throwing $50 away, thanks to my curiousity. I might start downloading it, but since I don´t have a flatrate, I won´t get the full download this month anyway. I hate being so curious. lol

BTW, this special version is multi-languaged, so it would really surprise me if it would be available only on gamesload.de . Sooner or later it should appear on other "games-on-demand" sites.

I´ll let you know if I find more information, or real screenshots of this version.

EDIT: And I was right with my assumption, all non-Germans can also buy it at Ubi.com :

(please click on the correct flag if your language doesn´t appear after clicking on the link, the shop system seems to "default" at french)

Wow, those minimum requirements are steep!!! 2GB ram, 6800/x1800 or better? Wow. I want to see some screenshots.

Here are few (horrible) screenshots of the standard PC version and I can confirm I haven´t seen a single bump or normal map texture in the whole game (standard version).

And here are screenshots of the X360 version, AND the Gamers Edition (PC), which is suppose to share the same files:

Bump maps, normal maps, offset maps, HDR.... its got everything. I´m sorry, but Ubi f0cked up the standard PC version and made it so ugly in comparison. :(

Why did they not include both versions in the box? That doesn't make sense to me.

Boy, how sweet is that Xbox 360. See what the system requirements are for a PC to match the 360 in this perticular game.

We can thank MS and their Windowscrap for that and unless I actually see how this game stutters on my computer, Iīll take the min. specs with a grain of salt.

Yes its the screenshots of the Gamer Edition. They were mainly talking about the whole thing, what Ubisoft was thinking and stuff and towards the end one guy actually downloaded it and ran it on an 64-3500/2GB/GTX SLI and had trouble to run all settings maxed out. Another guy with a similar rig, except with a X2-4600 and a single GTX got an average framerate of 40-50 (all maxed out, 1280x1024), but with really heavy action it went down to 10fps. However, he could only use 1 core of the X2, otherwise the game would stutter.

So there seems to be quite some issues, this version needs some patches for sure or a much better SLI value and a good CPU makes a huge difference as well

Yes he did. :) He even said that the rain drops were broken in the light. Very beautiful, probably the best what can be found on the PC today.

There you go:

Itīs from the Xbox360 but since the Gamers Edition is a 1-1 clone of it, its the same.

This is the regular PC Version and actually one of the best looking screenshots of it but imagine how the textures would look like at 1280x1024 (or higher).... not very pretty. :(

Ok, I'm confessed. It looks like this Gamers Edition is only availible for download on Europeanon Sites. Even Ubisofts site shows it availible for download in Europe while it's US site shows only one version. Does that mean that both versions are in the box in the US??

I checked Ubisofts US site and I couldn´t find the Gamers Edition either. This usually indicates that a box version might be planned, but at a later date. Of course its possible that none is planned due to the popularity of the X360 in the US and therefore possible low sales of the PC Gamers Edition. This sounds less likely since the game is already on Ubisoft servers (European, but who cares), so they´d only need to add it to the US site. Doesn´t sound like a major non-profit investment to me. ;)

Ubisofts European store site (english, french, german language support, the link that I posted b4) has the Gamers Edition, just like Gamesload.de, the German games-on-demand/online publisher site. These two sites seem to be the only ones that carry this version so far.

Since King Kong is multi-language, it can be downloaded for instance at Gamesload.de, even if you don´t know the German language, however, I´d recommend to use Ubisofts European store, and set it to "English" and actually buy it from them if I was in the US. (the key, where you download the 5GB archive from makes no difference)

Gamesload.de doesn´t have an English section and I have a feeling they might not give proper support for non-German users, otherwise they would have an English section.

4 more screenshots from the Gamers Edition:
