i been looking at the length of the recent sli cards(mainly 7800 series)
and was wondering what kind of case you might have

seems to me most cases are crammed when it comes to putting the card into a case (mostly right behind the HDs)

so was wondering if theres a case you guys recommend that has ample space

The 7800GTX is almost as long as a standard ATX motherboard is wide, if that gives you any idea of fit. We're talking less than a half-inch difference.

See my sig for GPU and mobo details. They're sitting snugly inside an Antec P160. And you're right; there's not a lot of room between the end of the PCI-e plug and the drive cage. (I saw an Xoxide UFO Ultimate earlier... must have.)

I bought a new big case, huge super tower just to cram in all the cables that came with my new beefy PSU and to still keep a clear path for air flow.
Cable ties are ALWAYS your best friend though

I find a full tower works quite nicely. Few pictures of my system here:

Cable ties are indeed great.

I really like the Antec P160. The hard drives don't face the motherboard (they face the side of the case) so they don't get in the way of the motherboard. Makes it really easy to work on the motherboard, route cables, etc.

My Antec P160WF has plenty of room for my cards. My P180 was too cramped though (I really don't like that case).

anyone with a LianLi PC-60 case know if the 7800 gtx fits in the case with the harddrives in it? cuz i have that case now but it looks kinda crammed and not sure if the card and harddrives will fit into the case

One thing that is as important as the case is which motherboard you select for SLI. Some have increased spacing between the two PCIe slots.

Just my .02 cents

For my system in christmas im getting the P160WF. Looks really nice on newegg, really good 5 star rating and reviews...I don't think the Asus SLi mobo's fit in the mobo tray in the p160's though...

They do. My A8N SLI Deluxe sits perfectly on the motherboard tray of the P160. With SLI GTXs installed, you've got a couple of inches of wiggle room between the end of the cards and the drive cage. Like OWA said, the business end of the drive cage faces you when you open the case, so there's absolutley no interaction between the cards or the drives.

I don't think it matters unless you have a lot of harddrives. In which case make sure you get a case with the HD cage pointing out and not towards the vid cards.

The only other thing is, since you know have an extra card producing 40 degrees of heat inside the case, the more airflow, the better for an SLi system.

I've got a Lian-Li PC-65 and a 7800 gtx. I think it's pretty much the same as the pc-60. If your bottom hard drive rack is full (4 hard drives), a gtx will not fit. As it is, I have to orient my hard drives so the pcie power connector goes between my hard drives. If you were to put your hard drives in the 3.5" drive bays above the main hard drive rack, they would fit fine. I have mine below because they get way better cooling there and they're easier to get at.
