Great news!! :) Hope we can trust inquirer on this one.

Translation= We aren't seeing people moving to PCI-x as much as we thought.

Tranlation=We need to combat the possible X1600 AGP and also get lot's of contracts with the Dell's and Medions of this world
As long as it's not too much more than the PCIe version, I'll be getting one ASAP. Really need to replace my 9700 (non-pro).

based on nv40=no working purevideo wmv. damnit.
Actually the GS is based on NV42, and it does have working PureVideo.

That is true for the PCI-E version. But the reference here is to the Inquirer which says an AGP version will be made available based on the NV40...believe it on not. :D

Okay, could somebody clarify the major differences between the GS and the 6800GT? I can't see why the GS can have four less pipes, 75Mhz faster clock and 100MHz faster memory than the the 6800GT and perform better overall. If I disabled four pipes (assuming I could) on my 6800GT- would I then be able to oc to the speeds of the GS and get the GS's performance?
While I would welcome with open arms a 250$ or less 6800GS in AGP, I still have my doubts.
The NV40 dies are considerably larger and pricier than NV42s. Plus NVidia and ATi are actually more concerned to push people to PCI-e and sell more of their readily available GPUs and chipsets.
True, they did make another native AGP chip (the NV44A) but it's a low end product, hardly difficult to design and produce and meant at the vast OEM market which offset the low profit margins with sheer volumes.
But the 6800GS-AGP would be entirely a different story. It's a card aimed uniquely at the retail market. Why NVidia should resume the production of the large NV40 dies (0.13u, 16 pieplines, 222M transistors) for a short lived, niche product ? ATi is somehow forced into selling their old R420-480 chips at a bargain price to clear the stocks. NVidia doesn't need to.

The 6800GS on AGP is REAL:
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=190141&Category_Code=VC-NV
Also, go to XFXForce.com and check out there GeForce6 series product lineup, they list a GS on AGP. I'm probably gonna' get one when they come out.

I was posting about this a while back in the 6800/7800 forum.
This is great news for the AGP people out there.
I was going to get one but found a stock 425mhz core clocked Evga 6800"Ultra" for
only 30 bucks more. ;) It also has a Zalman on it. :D
Notice the core clock on the 6800GS AGP is only 350.
So we know for sure now it's a NV40 core.

So Nvidia is still claiming PV is working on the NV40 core.?
What a joke.

Saw 4 Point of View 6800GS AGP here today. I've been tempted to grab one to substitute my 6600GT, but then I resisted. ;)
PureVideo has been the main blocking point. I gotta know if it's based on NV41 or NV40 before dropping 208 euro for it... :)

It IS NV40 based. That's why the drop in clock speeds.
They clocked it the same as the 6800GT.
