My games played quite smooth with my AGP X850XTPE. I decided to bite the bullet and go PCI-E and get the X1800XT 512. Well now I'm back to square one trying to figure out if I have driver problems or what, causing little stutters and things I got rid of back with my old 9700 Pro. Now I wish I would have bit the bullet and gone with a dual 7800GTX 512 and been done with it. Yes, I have a little buyers remorse at this time.
Maybe I'll figure it out, maybe I won't. But to those who have great running AGP systems. Don't fall for this upgrade crap!

Well dude FWIW there is no guarantee that going with a GTX would've been a trouble free transition. While I am for the most part happy with mine it has been a PITA getting the bugs shook out. We're talking about things a lot worse than a little hitching and stutters - how about blue screens and hard lockups. I've been fighting those ever since I loaded Nvidia's latest driver set. While I'm just unlucky for the most part I'm not the only one who is having these problems. So I feel your pain brotha. lol

I have a few issues with the XT as well. What games are you having trouble with, all of them in general or just specific ones? If I have some of the same games I'll see if I have the same issues.

I had a few glitches on the initial install of my 7800GTs in SLI but now they are running smooth as silk. No lockups, no jitters and everything set to max. Have played COD2, FarCry, Quake 4, and FEAR. Its running so well that I need some more demanding games to let my system stretch its legs. Maybe I just need a 1920 x 1080 diisplay.

Currently I get quite a few stutters and jumps in HL2 and in Nascar Racing 2003. I haven't had much time to do much else. I'm quite frustrated as those are my most played games!
Try a few more games and see how it goes. If all of them do it, it may be some sort of system/configuration/setting issue. If it's only specific games, it's more likely a driver/card/game issue. HL2 is known to stutter with lots of different configs though. I'll try it and see how it goes for me since I haven't tried HL2 on the XT yet. Is the NASCAR Racing 2003 game the one by Papyrus? If so, I have that one and I'll give it a shot. In the meantime, if that is the one you're playing, try OpenGL mode if you're currently using D3D mode or if you using D3D mode, try the OpenGL mode to see if that helps.

Owa, you gonna' go and try CrossFire when the X1800XT master cards and boards are available?
Do you have your in game graphics settings set too high? Is your CPU oc'd maybe TOO much (if it's oc'd at all)?

Did you try running the card at stock clocks?

I never say never (since I'm somewhat of an impulse buyer) but I doubt it.

Ick, that's never a fun experience, especially after you shell out hundreds for this top-end hardware. But cheer up man, whatever issues you have can probably be worked through and ultimately you'll come out of it all the wiser. Remember too that the X1800 drivers are in their infant stages and will probably improve with time (I guess? Never had an ATi card).
Well now dont say i didnt warn ya!

hopefully though the driver issues get sorted out with the later releases.

I've been waiting since the Catalyst 4.1 series (that's January 2004 for all you keeping score) for ATI to fix its problems with OpenGL games, in terms of performance, quality and gamma control. I've tried their cards up to the 5.9 drivers and it still hasn't been fixed.
While D3D performance and compatibility will certainly improve as it has in the past, I have zero confidence in their ability to produce a good OpenGL driver.
you have a thermaltake power supply...
They have finally started getting into the act, with good build quality, and not overloading the 3.3 and 5v rails simply to jack up the watt rating
Is your 560w PSU the version with 22A on the 12v rail?
That is not enough if that is what yours is
Nvidia recommends 22A for a 7800GTX 256, minimum
You have an X2, 4 HDDs, 2 DVD drives, water cooling, and an overclocked X1800XT...
I know when i overclocked my 6800 i had the same problem smooth even overclocked past 430Mhz and it would stutter in games most noticable in UT2003.
I'd look into that PSU, too.
The PSU is fine i use the 680w and it's perfectly fine. However i just changed back to my Antec NEO however as it runs quiter but the PSU are fine.
Did you make any progress on this? I just got around to giving the X1800XT a shot in HL2 and it's stuttering/hitching a lot. It seems a lot like the hitching in FEAR so I'm thinking it's just a driver issue. It's hard to know for sure though since HL2 is notorious for stuttering.
