Well guys,

I am back on the x64 wagon again atlast, with or without Daemon Tools now that I have a new router.

Problem now is.... cannot for the life of me get any themes working!

I have tried using the newest patch off the planetamd64 website, applied to both system32 and the sysWOW64 folders, even emptied the dllcache folder.

Tried it in safemode aswell as normal XP, and in normal mode I did get the prompt for WFP so it appears to replace the file. But STILL ....cannot access any other themes from the Appearance menu.

Tearing my hair out here, anybody have any ideas?

Keep an eye on neowin's uxtheme patcher. They usually are on top of this.

Last time I did this the automatic patcher wasn't out for x64.

It was necessary to copy the modified uxtheme.dll to a floppy, boot of the xp64 CD, and choose to bring up the recovery console. Then you can rename the old file from a command prompt (to .bak) and then copy over the new file from the floppy. It should work OK then. I've not had any problems setting it up.

nlite allows you to make an x64 install with uxtheme enabled but I've yet to test it yet. I'm wondering if they were smart enough to change it from the 32 bit one.

My current 64-bit install is an nLite install I made. The uxtheme patch they used works fine here.
nLite is pretty cool if you want to look into it. You can make slipstreamed install discs easily with all the tweaks and hotfixes allready applied. You can set it up for a fully automatic install too with the key and setup questions allready answered. I even added the Marvell Yukon drivers.

I loved using nLite for X32 , definately going to make myself an x64 one up for sure. Tons of language files and crap that you don't need! Saves tweaking services.msc and all.

I have fixed the problem now, somehow ....uxtheme.dll had gotten into driver.cab and kept being copied over, never in my life have I seen that. But I got around it in the end.

Going back to nLite, that program is that damn useful and good id pay for it! Not often I say that about a small App / Utility.

yeah the only major mistake I made with nLite so far was forgetting to disable the file protection thing.
