View Full Version : Negative LOD bias - Clamp, what exactly is it?

I tried to find the answer on the forums....but no really good explainations found...I know that it can be used to fix shimmering (along with HQ IQ setting)

LOD = Level of Detail...but what is clamp or allow? It defaults on clamp in the 81.95 drivers :)

And is Triple buffring only useful with OpenGL games?

The lower the LOD, the higher the resolution on the MipMaps I think.. and after a certain threshold, when the resolution is high enough so the pixels in the texture are smaller then your acctual onscreen pixels, you get annomalies like shimmering..
not really 100% sure on that tho... could be wrong..

Clamping it stops the LOD from going negative.
Triple Buffering in the Control Panel, that allows you to Force it on, only applies to OpenGL.
Think there is some bit about D3d that prohibits forcing it on a driver level, but the game can support it, some games have a console command for it, or option...
