7800 GTX 256mb running with FEAR at 1280x1024 resolution, what average FPS should you be getting? or what would be a good average FPS

I'm getting between 60 and 26 with 2xMSAA and 16xAF (no soft shadows), the average is usually around 45 and dips into the high 20s in huge fire fights sporadically. Not the best performance really.

I was averaging 37 FPS with those settings

Yes, but I also have more RAM and my CPU is a little faster in single-threaded apps, not to mention my card is clocked at 490/1300. So yours seems reasonable.

You'll want 2 gig for FEAR. It helps with the hitching.

that average is not too bad for those settings. Dont expect this generation (7800GTX/x1800) of cards to run nextgen games like FEAR perfectly (in my definition that's 60fps and above, but to every their own). If it hitches, just lower the texture detail to medium (I did) - it's not so bad really. Peace,
