I had an XFX 6800 Ultra about a year and a half ago, it wasn't so hot, I could hit around 455mhz and 1250mhz before it hardlocked. Don't expect too too much from it for OC'ing. What brand do you have?

actually received it as a gift, I believe it's a reference card..
(work gave it to me)
if I try and auto set the clocks it only gives me 423/1.14 :thumbdwn:
if I try and manually set it. it will fail at 450 or 1150

Try using rivatuner manually, Coolbits is really misleading, noticed it especially with the 6800 cards. What are you using to test for artifacts?
i have my OC too 450/1150 the high i have it OC is 460/1150 it is a BFG

The highest my old XFX 6800 ultra would do was 445/1.23. Anything over that and it would artifact.

They are actually 400/1100 but a lot of manufacturers released them at 425/1.2.
IndianScout: I wouldn't complain about your core clock . It's pretty good. The memory is a bit low but sometimes that is the way it is.

i know i don't have a 6800 ultra, but my GT is very similar, i obtained 420/1150 for my everyday clock speeds, but that's with a new heatsink....... from what i've seen the ultras should hit around 450mhz core then they take a poop, and same with the memory around 1200mhz if you're very lucky

My evga 6800Ultra agp came stock at 425mhz and I think 1.1ghz on the memory (have to double check the memory). Never felt any need to overclock. Thanks for the info though!

Hello all,
i have a XFX 6800 ultra AGP which wont overclock!
ive installed riva tuner, and the coolbits reg file and it keeps telling me the same thing. if i try to move the o/c bar it wants me to test the new settings and if i move it up 1 increment it says the thing is unstable. ive reformatted updated my drivers basically done everything i know how! but theres still no joy.
my computer is very capable. but the card just wont budge!
please help me
nick
My Ultra's did not OC well at all.

evga 6800 Ultra right now it's at 430/1.13. it will run at 450 I just never changed it back after the weather got cooler. By this time next week I'll have my 7800gtx oc 256 Bfg running so this ultra will go in my daughters computer. I have this card for almost 2 years it's been a great card no doubt about it!
Mine auto detects via coolbits @ 443/1.13 and seems to run rock stable at this setting. This is a BFG Ultra OC model. I tried going over one time and got artifacting in 3dmark 2005 (don't remember what speed it started to artifact at - it was a while ago).
I normally don't OC it over the factory 425/1.10 because the performance gain in games is negligible and I'm more about buying fast hardware and leaving it stock and reliable but like to venture with OC'n every now and then when I'm bored. (rudolf)

That is exactly my philosophy. Not that I didn't overclock before, when I was a student and had no money.(xmasgrin). Not overclocking helps me identify software problems instantly, since when you get a crash, you know it can't be yout p4 3.2 stock with 6800 Ultra stock, etc.(rudolf) .
Anyway, on topic, coolbits gave me on my ASUS 6800 Ultra 459/11??. (stock 425/1100) But that was a year ago, with fw 61.77. I have to check it again with newer drivers, and with the effect of time.

I still have a 6800 Ultra in my old Rig. It's a CoolFX from Gainward. 450/1200 24/7. For benchmarks I use 460/1220. It's still fast enough for the P4 @ 3.68.

I have a 6800u on the way for my old rig.
It's a evga with stock 425/1100 clocks.
I would say 90% of the 6800u's would hit 440 core
and 1200 memory. I'll let u know soon as I get mine. "lol" (cheers)
Since I'm using a LCD monitor at only 1280/1024 res this 6800U
should do just fine for gaming. It needs to do me for 12 to 18 months
at most. ;)

I have a Club-3D 6800u, and it clocked to 445/1260 with stock cooling. I've had it at 425/1200 for the past 18+ months, and it's still holding out with newer games. I just finished Serious Sam2 at 1600x1200, max settings, med AA, 8xAF.
I'll probably be getting the next 512Mb card from Nv in the New Year, and it looks like my AGP 6800U will still get a good price. :D (unless Nv/ATi release AGP versions of their latest cards by then)
