I wonder if it is possible to run demos like Nalu on a FX 5950 Ultra. Im sure it will go slow if you just run it the way it is. But is there a way to dumb it down, change the shader version, lower the quality just enough for it to run? that would be interesting.

Not likely, as new demos are designed to take advantage of hardware features not found in older cards. It wouldn't make much sense to offer a technology showcase of your brand new product if it runs on something older (and I don't even mean that it has to run well).

I am able to run the new luna demo meant for the 7 series rather smoothly on my lowly 6600gt i dont know if the same situation applies to your fx though

Wont be possible on FX.
it runs on the 6600GT coz both geforce 6 and 7 families have the same features. While FX doesnt.

They both are SM3 compliant, but the 7 series has Transparency AA.

Well, transparency AA is an added feature in gf7, overall, their feature sets are identical to gf6's.

Transparency AA isn't in direct relationship to the DirectX 9.0c featureset. The DirectX features are the relevant ones, and the FX series doesn't support the appropriate DX9 features (SM/VS 3.0, etc).

Yes Nalu does run on a Geforce FX but it's very slow, even with a FX 5900 it only ran at about 1fps and was outclassed by the Geforce 6200 TC which runs Nalu at 4fps. ;)
