My wife is getting a small upgrade I know the 6800gs is an OPTION, but I was wanting ot know if it was worth it to upgrade to a 6800 nu or a 6600gt? She plays Everquest 2 and Sims 2.

6600GT is a great card. you might want the 6800 for the extra pipes tho, although those games will easily run on the 6600GT

After looking at 6800NU pricing (ie 168 and up) I might as well look at 6600gt or the 6800gs. To be honest I havent used an Nvidia card sence my old 4600TI. How will the IQ comapre to my current X800XT? I'll be upgrading to but to a 7800GTX.

she proly has a apg 8x slot with a 9800 pro, im prety sure the 6800gs only comes in pci-e x16 (not posotive though). x800xt and 7800gtx will be a prety good upgrade proly gain a average of 20 fps in all ur games...

6800GS is PCI-E. Upgrading from a 9800Pro will be like a12ctic said and require an AGP card unless you ungrade motherboards as well.

The GS would be a good choice for her especially if you can get it <$200.

If she already has a 9800pro, then you are restricted to AGP. Therefore, the 6800 GS is NOT an option since it is PCIE only.

Performance wise, I dont feel upgrading to 6600GT and maybe even 6800NU would be significant enough. A much better choice, if you have the money is a 6800AGP ofcourse (or 6800NU and unlock and overclock it me). Or, ATI has a lot of decent AGP cards like X800GTO, X800XL, and X800XT. The wonderful side benefit would be that you wouldn't even have to change drivers ;)

I owned and operated over half-dozen various 9800pro's and miss them soo. Despite all the hooraa, they are still quite decent.

6800GT IS a better card than the 6800GS regardless...... Yeah, can unlock pipes, overclock etc ...but erm, why do that when you can get a perfectly good performer out of the box being the 6800GT? ...that overclocks to Ultra stock speeds with ease and IMHO for the price difference, well worth it.

I personally had a 9800Pro and I upgraded to a 6600GT PCIe card and I noticed a huge improvement. I personally believe that the 6600GT has better IQ also. I know that my games ran way faster. My wife is curently using that 6600GT to play Guild Wars at 1600x1200 with all the options on. She says that it plays smooth and has no hiccups or problems.

To answer your original question, the 6600GT is a reasonable upgrade from a 9800Pro. I am currently selling the 6600GT my wife is using as she is getting one of my old 6800GT's. It is for sale in the for sale/trade forums for $100 shipped. That is a great deal considering that 6800GS is $200 and the 6800GT is still $250+.
