Currently i'm running a P4 Prescott 478 3ghz CPU. I'm sick of intel and want to switch to AMD so I'm considering an X2. Right now i'm running a 6800 ultra but will go with a 7800 gt once I upgrade as well. How significant of gaines would I see by just upgrading from my current CPU to the base model 3800 x2, and how much better would it be if I went a step further to the 4200?

well, it depends on whether or not you want the extra L2 cache. tbh, you wont notice much difference between the 1MB/core 4200 and the 512kb/core 3800.

both OC like a dream, and they will give you great performance boosts over your current intel. so it all depends on how much you want to spend. (xmasgrin)

IIRC they both have 512 per core.
