The title says it all...
Why someone would buy a 6800gt that is less performing, consume more power and is more expensive than a 7800gt ???
I'm i just missing something ?

The companies are trying to get you to buy the 7800! Same thing happens with ram. The new stuff always cost less then the old.
that should help me get a lot of money for mine :fu:

Some company is trying to own the less informed. :p You can get 7800GTs as low as 299usd now. Unless you can find a 6800GT very cheap, I'd get the 7800.

Ram and hardware with onboard ram are tricky like that. The 7800GTX 512's are in short supply right now because of the ram they use. Not many companies make pc133 ram anymore either so 512mb's of generic PC133 costs about the same as 512mb of ECC/REG DDR333.
Another reason people might buy as 6800GT over a 7800 is for the AGP version. If you've got to buy a video card + Motherboard + Some cases ram and cpu, then it's just the better deal for now. A lot of people in this forum were ready for the big jump but this is a group of mainly hardware junkies.
Look at Rar up there ^^ with his socket A still. 7800 isn't an option without the full upgrades (minus ram) even though his cpu is allready good enough for a lot of games.

Well ... 6800GT is also AGP .... so for those who still have AGP and dont wanna dump the money into a new mobo (and probably CPU) quite yet... a kick ass AGP card is a prime choice. ;)
for an agp upgrade...
6800GT 256mb (recommended)
6800GS 256mb (recommended)

Im kind of confused...
Who said the 6800GT is more expensive than the 7800GT? A 7800GT will cost you around $300, where a 6800 GT will cost around $260...

$260.00. Try to get a Asus or Msi 6800GT for that. They go from $300.00 to $500.00. Do a search on Pricewatch.

The OP didn't mean in general. He likely meant he was shocked to see one priced over the 7800GT. There are still e-tailers out there and others that keep 6800GT|Ultra prices elevated hoping for the best.

:p
The lowest 6800GT I could find in price via pricewatch and froogle were 280 and 275 respectively. They have some on the Egg with rebate that would drop them to 249.

The Egg also has a evga 7800GT at 460|1.100 that comes with a rebate that would reduce it to 279.

P56.00 = $1.00 :D

Damn, look at the price of the X800-850s!!! I guess no one told them there's the X1800XL out, and the X1800XT albeit in shorter quantities.
