Just picked this game up at GameStop. I'm going to play it for a bit then give you guys my opinion on it.
I have high hopes for this game. I loved Super Mario RPG and this is the latest game in the "Mario RPG" series of games.
ign gave it a 9.0 I believe.

lol, the humor in this game will make you laugh your ass off. I'm not going to spoil it but play the game and find out.
OMG I am in tears here. I have to say one thing. Nintendo takes one hell of a pot shot at l337 sp34Kers! LOL @ JOOO NOOBS!
What do they say? Just curious :) If you don't tell me I will never know :(

Ok, I'm going to preface this review by saying that if you liked Super Mario RPG for SNES, you need to go out and buy this game. I was on the fence about getting this game, and now I'm glad I did. Definatly one of the best titles out there for the DS (probably the best if you like RPGs).
Gameplay - 10/10
I would only give a game a 10 out of 10 in gameplay if it brought something totally unique to the table. Something that you won't find in any other game. Mario & Luigi Partners in Time does just that.
First there is turn based combat. In Mario & Luigi, combat revolves around timed attacks which are easy when you start out, but difficult to master. For example, when you first start out, you can only use the jump attack. You can press "A" (or "B" when using luigi) before the jump lands and do a lot more damage. However, as you progress through the game you will learn advanced attacks that involve all four characters (mario, luigi, baby mario, baby luigi) and complex button timing can make a BIG difference in the amount of damage you do. It is something that is fun, challenging and unique.
It is tough to describe exploring the game world, but it uses new and unique gameplay mechanics that you haven't seen in any other game. It makes big use of the DS's dual screens. For example, throughout the game you will need baby mario and luigi to go off into another part of the map (top screen) to do something that will allow adult mario and luigi (bottom screen) to pass on. It's hard to describe, but it is really fun and brand new. It's nice to see new ideas in a game these days.
Story 10/10
The story in this game competes with the best out there. Yes, I mean it competes with Super Mario RPG (which IMHO is the best turn based RPG ever made), Legend of Zelda, BGII, etc. I'm not going to give any spoilers but let me just say that you won't be let down story wise.
As far as characters go, this game has me laughing my behind off. Case in point: teh l337 hAMM3R BROZ!!! I mean, for how hard I laughed at that part, the game is worth it just for that experience. There are things like that throughout the game. This is probably the funniest game I've ever played.
The only thing is, if you don't like baby mario (yes oldsk00l I mean you) then you probably won't like the story in this game.
Graphics - 8.5/10
The graphics in this game are very smooth, and the animations are top notch, but it is 2D so nothing is going to make you say "WOW" when you see it. Still, the graphics are very fitting for the storyline and gameplay.
Sound - 9.0/10
The sound in the game is a real treat (other than when the babies start crying that is just annoying but it dosen't happen often). The music is very similar to Super Mario RPG (but still origional), so if you liked the music in that game you'll love the music in this game. Overall the music fits perfectly for the gameplay and storyline.
Overall - 9.5/10
This is simply one of the best games on the Nintendo DS, and one of the best games out there period. If you have a Nintendo DS, there is no reason why you shouldn't pick up this game, and if you don't have a nintendo DS and are a big RPG fan - Nintendo just gave you the perfect reason to buy one. Not only that but target has DS's on sale for $100 I think, so now is the perfect time.
Another point that's a little off topic. I find it ironic that I have way more fun playing games with my $150 Nintendo DS than I do with my $2000 computer system. At any rate Nintendo is comming back in a big way regarding quality of games. If they keep producing titles of this quality, they are going to be back to their video game dominance like they were in the 90s.
