xbox 360 vga cable question

When i 1st setup my 360 the res was at 640-480 so i upped the res to 1360-768 for my hdtv but there arnt any options for 480,720, 1080. how do i know which one is being used??

The system auto detected that my screen is widescreen so thats ok (xmasmile)

I imagine it's using 720p and then converting it to your monitors specific resolution.
