There’s no official announcement yet, but apparently Dell is going to roll out a massive 30-inch LCD monitor to compete with Apple’s lust-inducing 30-inch Cinema Display. The 3007WFP is said to have a a resolution of 2560 x 1600 a 14ms response time, 400cd/m2 brightness, 700:1 contrast ratio, support for HDCP, and a built-in 4-port USB hub and 9-in-1 multimedia card reader. No price, but it should hit North America on December 21st.

I saw the specs on [H] yesterday in a thread over there, looks impressive but its gonna cost like 2 arms and a leg and a half I bet. :) My prediction is between 1500-2000 msrp when it first launches, rumored to be Dec 21st.(xmassign)

Yikes. Nice display. I think I'll keep my 2405FPW for now though, 1920x1200 is pushing it as far as performance in games goes as it is. ;)

What is the aspect ratio on this thing?

Muhahah!

I can probably sell my CABNE Opteron on ebay for whatever this costs. Movie goodness :)

2560 / 1600 = 1.6 = 16/10

So 16:10.

Whatever the apple 30" is, this will cost less. Thats the only thing I know right now.

I'll talk to the peeps and see if I can get any more information internally about the product but I doubt I will be jumping on it myself since I am basically playing most games @ 1680x1050 as is. I seriously doubt that I can play at max res :)

However, it sure would make a nice secondary display/tv/entertainment setup?

I'll have to see what my tax return amount will be

And rip, DONT DO IT lol.

hahaha...and those Apple displays are BEAUTIFUL. Pretty much everyone at work uses the 23" or 20" Cinema displays and the colors are just out of this world. I have never seen such vibrancy and I've gotta hand it to Apple, they really know how to make a perfect monitor.

The 30" is $2500 which seems much lower than I remember. I could've sworn not too long ago they were over $3000.

As pretty as they are, I'd still much rather have a 2405.

The panels are identical for the most part Supah :)

My display uses the exact same panel as Apple does, except it is designed to work with a lot more display outputs than the apple display.

Now I do prefer the form of the apple screens but I'd rather save a few bucks.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that: the Apple's have crap as far as extra features are concerned. Those Dells have the media readers, the USB and Firewire ports, not to mention S-Video, and like 4 other video I/Os. They're so impressive.

And the 30" panels are going to be identical or ALL of the Dell/Apple panels are identical?

That I am not sure about.

I think there is only one or two companies out there who manufacture panels with those specs so I would not be surprised to see Dell use the same type of panel.

How large would a 1920x1200 image cropped in a 30" monitor be? I figure once Vista comes out you can game at 1920x1200 windowed mode at full res desktop and have other stuff displayed near the game, like notes, game maps, etc. Hopefully there will be little performance penality in Vista when gaming in windowed mode.

Gotcha...it makes sense and sure would be a slap in the face to all those Apple fanatics at work. muahaha

Unless it supports HDCP, which I don't think any current TFTs do, it's not going to work very well with Vista anyway.

Did you even read the link the OP provided? If the rumor is true it will support HDCP.
