Usually I use AOL 9 software to connect to the Internet (via ADSL modem), but the horrible software clutters up my system and makes various games run at a reduced framerate while online (no, not network lag, but system lag).

Sooo, I wish to bypass the AOL software. I'm trying to achieve this: http://members.aol.com/kazchat2/id17.htm. I've tried creating a new "AOL Broadband" connection (in Network Connections), setting up a username & password... but it doesn't work. I get an invalid password error each time.

What am I doing wrong?

Is AOL your ISP?

Apologies, but Bumped.

Anyone know of a solution to this, bar ditching AOL as an ISP period?

The problem has now extended to BF2, btw :(. Offline framerate is 60FPS+, online it's in the 30's...

I used to have AOL around 10 months ago at my shared student house, and we used the method above to connect to AOL and it worked fine.... You are entering the phone number as 0,38 right. I think you might have to have AOL Gold or Premier or whatever they call it. The one with Home networking support.
