Just noticed this in the latest nvidia developer newsletter,

"NVPerfHUD 3.2 includes support for the 81.97 ForceWare drivers and minor bug fixes. It is now available to registered developers, and will be released to the general public shortly. Log-in or join the program (benefits of being a registered developer)."

new drivers soon?

They've been around for a little while allready for devs. So far no leaks that I found.

Superfly: I asked in another thread if you could report this bug - not too sure if you have yet. OpenGL in the 80's series drivers is very problematic on dual CPU / core systems. On my dual Xeon rig, 3DSMax, SketchUp, and PaintShop Pro all hang on load and if they do initialize both processors are pegged at 100% CPU usage. Please note that this only applies when using the OpenGL renderer. Over at the forceware forums there are a load of other users, both X2 and Dual Intel users, who are experiencing the same issue.

Needless to say, it is very frustrating that the problem has been ignored in all the releases so far. It would be very much appreciated if you could check with Nvidia to see if they do plan on fixing the problem, or if this is something intentiontal they have done as others have suggested, as a means to convince users to upgrade to their Quadro series of cards which apparently don't have these problems.

I say skip the 81.xx and do 82.xx

3ds max works with 81.97 drivers.

I was hoping we would see an 82.xx build with some fixes for more recent bugs I submitted.

Tertsi - are you running OpenGL on a dualcore / dual cpu system? The problem on exists under those conditions.

That would be great news if the problem is fixed...

this pages claims a possibility of a new driver set next week;

http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=4510&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

hope it's true. (btw it speaks of performance fixes for quake 4)

Sweet news - the option to turn on and off the multi-core enhancements are exactly what we need in the meantime.

Plus, the 87% performance increase in Quake 4 on my dual Hyperthreaded Xeons is going to kick ass :)

If the Flight Simulator bug is not fixed with these I will be selling my 7800GTX and getting an X1800XT...

..perhaps you could post some details on that bug ... He has actually posted info and screens in another thread. eg.http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=59885 and earlier. He's just frustrated because it can take months for forum posts to be noticed and fixed by nV. If possible Tabs, use an older driver for a while until this is fixed.
