I'll get straight to the point. They monitor and make records of all file sharing on all major networks, gnutella, kazaa, edonkey etc. aswell as IRC and Usenet.

What are they going to do? Send men to my house and ask me to stop? Sure I dl music and even movies now and then. They're crazy if they think I'm going to stop any time soon.

This is for real.

When they see enough traffic on a particular ISP they threaten legal action unless the ISP takes steps to prevent it. This includes blocking certain web sites, and certain ports that file sharing apps use. They have also been known to take action against individuals.

they are going to send a letter to your ISP telling them to tell you to cease and desist, and they may get your internet connection shut off.

big offenders may have legal action taken against them(people who serve a lot on IRC or whatever).

Bad news for all the software pirates out there.

it's not even that. i almost never pirate software. i do however download lots of tv programs and stuff, which technically should not be illegal(it's broadcast tv), but still those damn "powers that be" want to make it illegal that bugs me.

It will be impossible to sue an ISP in China or even better in Malaysia. They can shove it up theirs, just like http://www.nukepirates.com/ can :)

If they take actions like RIAA did they can expect the same :afro2:

Right on! They can say whatever they want online without any of us knowing if it's the truth or not. That's not freedom. Pretty soon we'll end up as another Honduras.

And if you have a cable modem service through the same company that provides cable tv in your area...

They are just bunch of fools, that's all.

I don't deal in shareware or crippleware or any of that crap. It's not worth my time. And before I make a full-time investment, I - the man with the wallet and one of many people solely responsible for their very existance in the first place (there is no "business" without "customers") - will make damn sure that every single solitary aspect of a product works and is what I expect before any commitment is to be made.

If I have to snag a pirated, full-functional, copy off a file-sharing network, so be it. If it passes my own battery of tests and my scrutiny, I'll go buy a legit copy and hose the pirated one. If it doesn't pass, it gets 86'ed and I save myself time, grief, and money that they clearly don't deserve (take that, Norton Ghost).

They can come and get me.

They better prepare for one hell of a fight because I'm going straight for their jugular...and without an attorney. :afro: :p
